Notes:
• The Use of Force Policy requires that Agents, Officers, and Seized Property Specialists carry at least one intermediate force device, (baton, OC spray or taser). Most personnel carry two. Weight summary based on the heavier combination of baton and taser.
• Weight summaries include the weight of the holsters, pouches or cases supporting the actual equipment on the duty belt.
• Most Border Patrol Agents (BPA) additionally carry a long gun (rifle or shotgun), CBP Officers (CBPO), and Seized Property Specialists (SPS) do not.
• Use of a long gun for Agents, Officers, and SPS may vary with location and duty assignment.
• The CBP Officer Job Task Analysis (2009) identified use of a handgun, rifle or shot gun as an essential task.
• When a Body Armor Level IV Vest is being utilized, it is with the accompaniment of the Level III-A Vest.
Therefore the weight for use of a Level IV Vest is a combined 272 oz or 17 lbs.
• The equipment requirements summarized are reflective of the Agent, Officer, and SPS Positions and not the collateral duty (BORTAC or SRT) Special Response Team duty assignments.
• An annual review of the equipment requirements was conducted by the Medical and Fitness Branch in collaboration with Matt Sherman Acting Director of the Use of Force Policy Division in Washington, DC.
