About this file

This is a head count and building occupancy document related to South Dakota State University's Request for Proposal for pouring rights and vending services on its Brookings campus. The RFP seeks vendors to supply approximately 113 beverage and snack vending machines distributed across 46 campus buildings, fountain dispensers for food service areas and athletic concession stands, and beverage stock for on-campus convenience stores. The university serves 12,139 students and approximately 2,002 employees. Site visits are scheduled for April 29 through May 5, 2026, with written questions due by May 12, 2026 at 5:00 PM CDT and responses provided by May 19, 2026 at 5:00 PM CDT. Proposal submissions are due by email to Karen Bravek at Karen.Bravek@sdstate.edu no later than May 29, 2026 at 2:00 PM CDT, with an anticipated award decision on June 15, 2026. Contractors may select from four service packages: Pouring Rights, Vending Rights, Isotonic Beverage Rights, and Exclusive Athletic Sponsorship Rights. The contract term options allow for either five years with two renewable five-year options (not to exceed 15 years total) or ten years with one renewable five-year option (not to exceed 15 years total).

The contractor is responsible for all equipment costs, including Energy Star certified machines, 365-day annual service with maximum 24-hour response times, and all maintenance and merchandise costs. Required insurance includes commercial general liability of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence, professional liability of at least $1,000,000, and business automobile liability of at least $1,000,000 per accident. SDSU will provide existing 110-volt electrical service and water service at no cost to the contractor. Annual financial contributions must be submitted on a Financial Contribution Data Sheet with specified annual escalation rates, with pouring rights, isotonic, and athletic sponsorship payments commencing July 1, 2026, and vending payments due quarterly. No specific award values, budget ranges, or set-aside designations are disclosed in the procurement documents. SDSU's existing food service partner is Sodexo, and the selected vendor must align operations with this established partnership. SDSU reserves the right to negotiate proposals and make single or multiple awards.
