The VFD will be matched to the fan motor according to the FLA rating of the motor.

The VFD will convert input line voltage to an adjustable frequency and voltage. A rectifier stage will convert fixed voltage, fixed frequency, AC line power to fixed DC voltage. The input power section shall utilize a full wave bridge design incorporating diode rectifiers. The rectifier shall be insensitive to phase rotation of the AC line. The DC voltage will be filtered. The VFD will change fixed DC voltage to variable frequency AC. The VFD section will utilize insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs).

Environmental:

The VFD will be housed in an IP20 or IP21 enclosure and be designed to operate in an ambient temperature range of

Equipment Submittal Page 7 of 24

-10 to 45 degrees C minimum (14 to 104 F). The maximum relative humidity shall not exceed 95% at 40 C, non-condensing. The VFD is rated to operate at altitudes less than or equal to 3,300 ft. For altitudes above this, consult Trane for proper drive selection.

Ratings:

The VFD is designed to operate within the unit's voltage utilization range of +/- 10%. The output carrier frequency of the drive is no less than 3 kHz, and may be modulated based on VFD load for low noise operation. The output frequency will be adjusted by the unit controller from 22-60 Hz to meet duct static requirements.

Protection:

The VFD will meet UL requirements for motor over-current protection and UL 508C for controllers containing power switching devices. The VFD will also provide internal protection from over-current, overheat and transient situations.

Controls:

The run command signal to the VFD will be provided by the unit controller. To maintain duct static pressure, the unit controller will also output a 0-10 volt DC signal which will be the speed reference input for the VFD.

Faults:

Alarms resulting from loss of airflow will cause latching diagnostics on the unit controller. When latching diagnostics occur, the unit controller will require a manual reset.

VFD Keypad Display:

The VFD will have a back-lit alphanumeric LCD display which provides readout functions that include: output frequency, output voltage and output current.

Harmonic Analysis (WARNING):

The Trane Company does not assume responsibility for system harmonic performance. Harmonic performance anomalies can be a direct result of distribution system characteristics, not unit performance. A harmonic analysis can be performed, by the VFD manufacturer or qualified professional, based upon system documentation consisting of but not limited to one-line diagrams and specific distribution transformer information consisting of X/R, % Z and KVA data.

The data shall consist of but not be limited to total harmonic voltage distortion and total RMS current.

The amount of harmonic distortion at the point of common coupling (PCC) is due to the distribution system characteristics (impedance of the source), the power source size relative to the AC drive load and other power switching devices such as computers, fax machines, copy machines, etc. The harmonic current magnitude and voltage distortion values can be estimated through computer modeling. If the resulting calculations determine that the harmonic distortion will be above the IEEE-519 Specifications of 5%, isolation transformers or line reactors can be purchased from others to lower the harmonic levels.

Variable Frequency Drive with Bypass When the VFD with Bypass option is desired, a factory mounted VFD and bypass wiring will be supplied with the unit.

The factory mounted VFD and bypass will ship, from the factory, completely wired and functionally tested. Properly sized motor protection shall be provided in both Drive and Bypass modes by a motor overload relay and fuses.

Manual selection between Drive and Bypass modes is to be made by the operator at the unit Human Interface (HI). Full unit control and protection is provided in both the Drive and Bypass modes, with the exception of air-flow modulation for duct static control. When placed in the Bypass mode, a pair of dry contacts will close. This output can be utilized by a building automation system to make system adjustments to prepare for an across the line start of a fully loaded fan. For example, opening VAV boxes to prevent unit from failing on high duct static pressures. The Run Command signal, to the bypass motor starter, will be provided by the unit controller. High duct static protection must be active in Drive and Bypass modes of operation.

Unit Interrupt Rating (Standard Short Circuit Current Rating-SCCR) A 5,000 Amp rating (up to 480V) and 25,000 Amp rating (600V) shall be applied to the unit enclosure using a non-fused circuit breaker for disconnect switch purposes. Fan motors, compressors, and electric heat circuits shall be provided with series rated circuit breakers that will provide the unit rated level of protection. The unit shall be marked with approved cULus markings and will adhere to cULus regulations.

Filters (Medium Efficiency MERV 8) Two-inch (51 mm) medium efficiency MERV 8 throwaway fiberglass filters are installed in the unit filter section. Filters may be removed from entering air side or the left side of the unit by opening the swing out access filter door..

Equipment Submittal Page 8 of 24

Unit Connection (Disconnect Switch) The unit has a factory mounted non-fused disconnect switch accessible without opening the control panel door.

Unit Interrupt Rating (Standard Short Circuit Current Rating-SCCR) A 5,000 Amp rating (up to 480V) shall be applied to the unit enclosure using a non-fused circuit breaker for disconnect switch purposes. Fan motors, compressors, and electric heat circuits shall be provided with series rated circuit breakers that will provide the unit rated level of protection. The unit shall be marked with approved cULus markings and will adhere to cULus regulations.

Waterside Economizer Coils The waterside economizer takes advantage of cooling tower water to either pre-cool the entering air to aid mechanical cooling or provide total system cooling if the water temperature is low enough. Waterside economizing enables when the unit's entering water temperature is below the unit's entering mixed air temperature by a minimum of 4 F plus the economizer's approach temperature. The approach temperature default is 4 F and is adjustable from 0 to 9 F. Waterside economizing disables when the unit's entering water temperature is not below the unit's entering mixed air temperature by at least the water economizer approach temperature. The economizer acts as the first stage of cooling. If the economizer is unable to maintain the supply air setpoint, the unit control module brings on compressors as required to meet the setpoint.

Waterside Economizer (4 Row, Mechanically Cleanable) The waterside economizer includes a coil, modulating valves, controls, and piping with cleanouts. All components are factory installed in the unit cabinet. The coil is constructed of 1/2 inch (13 mm) O.D. seamless copper tubes expanded into configured aluminum Delta-Flo (TM) fins. A common drain pan is used for the evaporator and economizer coils.

The waterside economizer coil has four rows with no more than 12 fins per inch. The tubes are arranged in a staggered pattern to maximize heat transfer. The coil has removable cast iron intermediate headers and round copper supply and return headers with removable cleanout plugs. Tubes can be mechanically cleaned in the field. The waterside working pressure is rated for 400 psig.

Intermediate Water Piping (Left Hand, w/ Waterside Economizer) Left hand water connections and piping are extended to the unit exterior. Manifold piping and valves are factory installed. Economizer control valves can be set for variable or constant water flow from the human interface panel (HI).

Constant Water Flow Two-way modulating control shutoff valves are wired, controlled, and installed in the unit. One valve is located in the economizer's water inlet, and the other is in the condenser bypass water inlet. When the waterside economizer enables, the two-way valves modulate to maintain the discharge air temperature setpoint. As the economizer valve opens, the condenser bypass valve closes, and vice versa. Full water flow is always maintained through the condensers. Both valves will close in the event of a power failure.

Variable Water Flow Two-way modulating control shutoff valves are wired, controlled, and installed in the unit. One valve is located in the economizer's water inlet, and the other is in the condenser bypass water inlet. When the economizer valve is active, the condenser bypass valve closes. The economizer valve modulates, thus water flow through the unit is modulates. If the water is cool enough for economizing, but mechanical cooling is also required, the economizer valve fully opens to establish full water flow through the condensers. Whenever the water is too warm for economizing and there is a call for cooling, the economizer valve fully closes and the bypass valve fully opens, establishing full water flow through the condensers. Full water flow is always maintained through the condensers when mechanical cooling is required. Both valves close whenever cooling is not required, and in the event of a power failure.

Water Flow Switch A water flow switch is factory installed in the condenser water pipe within the unit cabinet to detect a water flow loss.

Whenever a water flow loss is detected prior to or during mechanical cooling, compressor operation is locked out and a diagnostic code is displayed. When water flow is restored, compressor operation is automatically restored.

Ventilation Control for Standard 2-Position Dampers (Interface Only) The unit will be provided with a 0-10 VDC control output suitable for controlling a field provided modulating actuator. In occupied modes of operation the output will be driven to maximum position. When the system is unoccupied, the output will be driven to minimum position.

Low Entering Air Temperature Protection

Equipment Submittal Page 9 of 24

A pair of thermostat limits, connected in series, are factory mounted on the unit's entering airside (standard with units including Waterside Economizer and/or Hydronic Heat). A capillary tube is serpentine across the coil face. If the temperature falls below 36 degrees F (2 degrees C), the fan shuts down and the waterside economizer valve, if applicable, will open to allow full water flow. The Hydronic heat valve, if applicable, is also opened. A manual reset is required at the unit.

Agency Listing: UL The unit shall be US/Canada Underwriter's Laboratory labeled and approved.
