44) 3.04, Cleaning H. 3 - Specification is calling to replace unremediable fibrous glass material at no additional cost to the owner. As we don’t know the current site conditions and have no way to assess what is encompassed in this scope of work this would have to be priced on a contingency basis. Pricing for this could be as high or higher than the cost to clean all the ducts. In the interest of the competitive bidding process and to offer the government “apples to apples” pricing, can the design team establish a contingency amount that all bidding subcontractors can carry in their bid for this scope of work? Or can the verbiage be such that, if fibrous materials need to be replaced, that a cost could be evaluated at that time?
ANSWER: A contingency amount of $5,000 will be allocated for this purpose.
45) General Note #4 - states “existing services and insulation that is not plenum rated that have plenum return to existing AHU-1201 shall be removed and replaced with plenum rated materials or shall be encapsulated with fire wrap, similar to 3M Fire Barrier Plenum Wrap 5A+, to exclude them from the plenum.” As we don’t know the current site conditions and have no way to assess what is encompassed in this scope of work, this would have to be priced on a contingency basis.
In the interest of the competitive bidding process and to offer the government “apples to apples” pricing, can the design team establish a contingency amount that all bidding subcontractors can carry in their bid for this scope of work?
ANSWER: A contingency amount of $10,000 will be allocated for this purpose.

68) 234000 What is the expected CFM on this system?
ANSWER: The housing is for service to EF-1201-C,D. One fan is to run at a time. Refer to schedule on M-401 for fan capacity.
69) 234000 Will the pre-filter and final filter be accessed through a single door or will they require separate access? (two doors) ANSWER: Two doors as noted in 23 40 00 2.08 E that notes each tier of filtration will have a door.
70) 234000 Which side of the unit should the access door(s) be located?
ANSWER: Doors would be expected to be installed on the west side (left looking at inlet of housing) to allow maximum service access. Final determination will need to be coordinated with installer prior to order.
71) 234000 Is a test section required?
ANSWER: A dedicated test section is not intended. Please refer to 23 40 00 2.08 K that indicates the desired test ports and their locations. Also note item J that calls for static pressure ports to be installed across each filter bank (pre and HEPA) for indication of filter loading. Magnehelic gauges are also required in item L.
72) 234000 Will the housing require inlet and outlet transitions and dampers? If yes, please specify inlet an outlet ducting sizes.
ANSWER: The housing will require inlet and outlet transitions as shown on M-103A. It is at the discretion of the installing contractor if the transitions are to be provided with the housing or shop fabricated with the welded stainless steel exhaust ductwork. Refer to plans for duct inlet sizing. No dampers are planned since there is a single housing serving only one hood.
73) 234000 Is there a requirement for decontamination ports?
ANSWER: It is intended that the test/challenge ports will be used for decontamination if required.
74) 234000 Key Notes #4 specifies mounting the housing on rood curb rails. Will the unit sit directly on these rails or are stilts required on the housing?
ANSWER: Housing can sit on curb or may need to be raised up depending on construction of inlet and out transitions and the connection to the fan plenum box. This will need to be reviewed and detailed by the installing contractor.
75) 234000 The final filter is called out as a MERV 17 rating. Is this expected to be a HEPA level efficiency? If yes, what efficiency is expected?
ANSWER: Yes, the filters for housing F-1 are to be HEPA grade filters with 99.97% efficiency.
Refer to 23 40 00 2.05 (note - item 2.05 C incorrectly notes MERV 15, should be MERV 17 per schedule. Section 2.05 shows similar to AAF AstroCel1 at 99.97% eff)
76) Ceilings There seems to be discrepancies between the finish schedule and the RCP legend in terms of where the new ceiling tile is to be applied. For example: 1D-525 on the Finish Schedule states ACP-1. When you look at it on the RCP it is hatched as if it were to be Existing to Remain.
Please confirm if the RCP plans take precedence in these cases.
ANSWER: The RCP drawings are correct and should be followed for ceiling material.
77) 115300 & 132114 Both of these specification sections appear to cover the cold room. Please confirm which specification takes precedence in cases of conflict.
ANSWER: 132114 shall take precedence.
78) 071326 Locations for waterproofing could not be found in the plans. Please confirm where this system will be required. Is this located at the new concrete pits?
ANSWER: Provide exterior waterproofing at acid vault, please refer to spec section 07 13 26- 1.02.A.1.
79) M-111C, Level 1, Area C. I do not have a print for area C new piping?
ANSWER: No renovation piping installed in area C. This is indicated on the legend on M-000 that does not have a sheet listed for this area.
80) M-111B, Note 4. Only one location is shown, is that correct?
ANSWER: Correct, there is one drop for the two condenser connections. Exact location and piping will need to be coordinated with the vendor supplying the coolers.
81) The lab drawings list a spec number for a Haws emergency shower but the plumbing only indicate a rough-in and final connection. Who is supplying the fixture?
ANSWER: These are under lab equipment as specified in 11 53 00.
82) Note 2 on drawing P-111D indicates that the lab gas is supplied and installed by the lab equipment installer. Does that reference all lab piping or just at the cylinder manifolds?
ANSWER: NOTE 2 is intended to clarify lab equipment installer is to run tubing from equipment to nearest local dewar or valve provided at overhead carrier. It is the understanding of the design team that all laboratory gas piping, whether it be from a cylinder manifold or from house systems to overhead service carriers, will be installed by a plumbing contractor. Lab Equipment installers are contracted for the installation and commissioning of the laboratory instrumentation itself, not the routing of plumbing lines. Division of scope is to be verified general contractor.
