About this file

This file contains information about a boulder stockpile resource available to contractors through Greenville County, South Carolina, in support of the SCOR Stream Restoration and Riparian Area Reclamation Projects. The county has made available hundreds of boulders and large riprap material from excavation activities at Twin Chimneys Landfill, with approximately 50% of the material suitable for stream restoration applications including boulder toes, boulder walls, vanes, J-hooks, and boulder riffles. The material is available at no charge for pickup by contractors working on Greenville County projects. Material loading must occur during designated operating hours—weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.—at the Twin Chimneys Landfill located at 11075 Augusta Road, Honea Path, SC 29654. Contractors are responsible for selection, loading, and identification of appropriate boulders, which may be split or shaped onsite as needed. Boulders may be relocated to access others, provided they do not impede existing pathways or normal landfill operations.

Contractors utilizing this resource must adhere to specific conditions: the county assumes no liability for equipment left onsite, contractors cannot interfere with normal landfill operations, and all material handling must comply with designated timeframes. This no-cost material source directly supports the two stream restoration projects—Little Creek Stream Improvement and North Chastain Stream Restoration—both within the Reedy River watershed, which include extensive instream feature installations requiring substantial quantities of large stone materials. The availability of this stockpiled material represents a significant cost savings opportunity for bidders on the SCOR-funded projects, with bid submissions due January 13, 2025, and contract award anticipated January 15, 2025.
