GLEN 12-1036 Sanitary Sewer RFI #4
RFI Questions and Responses
1. The specifications states that a walkover system is not allowed and that a tru tracker or equivalent guidance system is required. We have deviated from this specification in the past and used a walk over approach. The cost for a tru track system is significant and will provide the same result as the walkover. Typically, you use the tru tracker system when the walkover system cannot be used. This is not the case for this project. Furthermore, there is only one contractor that does 95% of the boring in El Paso County and would be difficult to create competition for the sub. May we use the walkover system in lieu of the speced out tru tracker system.
a. Government Response: Yes. The contractor is responsible for obtaining accurate independent utility locates and protecting existing utilities in place during construction, however the means and methods of doing so should be at the contractor’s discretion.
2. New sewage pumps comes with control panel which controls Leed lag operations as well as Alarms/horn. It does not specify if the emcs system is going to pick up status of the alarms? Is it the governments intent to just have this control panel be a standalone control system?.
a. Government Response: The intent is a stand-alone control system.
3. Installation and removal of all temporary fencing as needed to secure the construction work zones. Is orange fencing acceptable or does it have to be chain-link?
a. Government Response: Orange fencing is acceptable as long as it is adequately maintained and effective in its intended purpose.
4. Protection of existing irrigation. If irrigation equipment is encountered and is in conflict with the items of work, the irrigation equipment shall be relocated and/or replaced in kind, to accommodate the work. If irrigation needs to be relocated will this be a modification to the contract since irrigation as-builts are not in the bid documents?
a. Government Response: As irrigation is not anticipated to be a factor in this requirement, any additional work would be done under a modification.
