About this file
This is a moisture probing test report prepared by Materials Testing, Inc. for the City of New Haven Engineering Department regarding the Floyd Athletic Center Improvements project. The report documents the results of ASTM F2170 relative humidity testing conducted on the interior concrete slab of the Floyd Athletic Center located at 480 Sherman Parkway in New Haven, Connecticut. Materials Testing, Inc. drilled 44 pre-selected areas in the concrete slab on February 7, 2025, at 10:30 AM, at a depth of 4 inches into an approximately 10-inch-thick slab. Relative humidity measurements were recorded on February 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM using a calibrated RapidRH Model L6 instrument. The testing was conducted under ambient conditions of 71°F and 41% humidity.
The moisture probing results reveal significant variation across the tested areas, with relative humidity readings ranging from 70% to 98%. Several test locations (1, 2, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 29, 34, 35, and 44) could not be recorded due to water-filled holes after drilling or damaged sensors, indicating notable groundwater presence in certain areas of the slab. Elevated humidity readings, particularly in the range of 87% to 98%, were documented in multiple locations, with the highest concentrations in the central and eastern portions of the measured area. These results are critical for the planned moisture mitigation work specified in the Floyd Little Athletic Center Flooring project, which includes slab-on-grade moisture mitigation as a key component prior to installation of new resilient flooring in hallways, atriums, vestibules, and stairways.
