CE BUMP
QUESTIONS - ANSWERS
Q1. At Bldg 780 Install Cooling Water Strainer PWT-Motor Drive, is there an overhead crane at this site that would be available for Contractor use?
A1. There is a 20 ton crane in Bldg 780 that AEDC will run to allow the contractor to bring in equipment that is too large to navigate the fork lift path.
Q2. Reference: Attachment 11, Section L, Page 2, paragraph (b) " Performance Surveys: The government will evaluate the quality and extent of offeror's performance deemed relevant to the requirements of this RFP. The government will use information submitted by the offeror and any other sources of information available to the Government to assess past performance. Offerors may submit no more than three recent and relevant contract references for the prime contractor and no more than two for each major subcontractor performed for Federal agencies or commercial customers within the last five years. If the prime is a joint venture, offerors may submit no more than two recent and relevant contract references per joint venture partner. The total number of recent and relevant contract references provided shall not exceed SEVEN references from prime contractor, subcontractors, and joint venture partners combined. References exceeding seven will not be evaluated." The past performance information that we will be suppling will either be work we performed as the Prime Contractor or turn-key project work we performed as a Subcontractor, we will not be using any subcontractors past performance, with that being said, are we limited to just 3 past performance references or can we submit the total of 7.
A2. See Amendment #1 that changes some of the wording for the past performance/references on Attachment 11, Section L, page 2, para (b).
Q3. For the HVAC work in building 651, what is the distance from the ceiling tiles to the ceiling on the first and second floors?
A3. In Room 107, the existing ceiling tiles are mounted to the existing concrete deck ceiling at 9' - 2". The new ceiling tiles and lights are to be installed below 9' - 2".
The distance from the existing ceiling tiles to the ceiling on the remainder of the first floor work area is 3'. The existing ceiling tile height is 8' - 6". The distance from the new ceiling tiles to the ceiling on the second floor work area is 13' - 8". The existing ceiling tile height is 12' - 3" and the new ceiling tile height is 9' -0".
Q4. For the cooling water strainer, can you give the manufacturer and model number of all acceptable strainers?
A4. Per spec section 33 12 18-2, part 2.1A Manufacturers:
1) RP Adams Model 24 DWS80
2) VAF Filtration Systems, LTD V- Series
3) Approved equal
Spec any filters per section 33 12 18-2.
Q5. Reference Attachment 4, Section 33 12 18 Automatic Backwash Strainers, page 2, Part 2 Products, 2.1 Automatic Backwash Strainer, A. Manufacture: One of our vendors has requested for another manufacture to be considered as an approved equal to the manufacturers listed.
A5. Strainers using a wiper method for self-cleaning are not an approved equal.
Strainers are required to use water jetting to self-clean. Per spec section 33 12 18-2, Part 2 Products 2.1 Automatic Backwash Strainer F. Self-Cleaning Method: The strainer or bank of strainers shall remove captured material by backwashing the material away from the strainer media.
Q6. Are insulating pipe hanger supports required at locations of pipe hangers and support rods (As described in Notes #9 and #10 on Attachment 3, Sheet M6) so that the closed cellular foam insulation is protected and not damaged by compression?
A6. Specification section 23 05 29 states, “Size hangers on insulated piping to fit over insulation, using heavy-gage galvanized steel saddles to protect insulation. Where the insulation is soft and will not support the pipe without being crushed, install rigid insulation in the saddle. For pipes 1-inch- diameter and larger, saddles shall be a minimum of 12 inches long.”
Q7. Are fabricated insulated elbows, accessories, etc. required for providing insulation on piping around corners of buildings, etc. as described in Note #43? (Attachment 3, Sheet M3, Note #43).
A7. Drawing M3, Note 31 states, “Insulate refrigerant piping with ½ inch wall closed cell insulation.” This includes elbows and accessories as required in the routing of the piping.
