About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the Department of the Air Force (DAF), AFLCMC/C3BM, regarding Fire Control Radar (FCR) capabilities (Notice ID: FA8612_RFI_C3BM_2026_0001).
The RFI seeks vendor information on ground-based fire control radar systems with a target unit cost objective of less than $10 million. Key capability requirements include 360-degree coverage and simultaneous engagement of multiple targets using two or more distinct types of kinetic effectors against cruise missiles and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Groups 1-5). The preferred configuration maintains the FCR separate from the effector, though vendors may propose alternative integration methods with supporting trade-off analysis. Both rotating radar systems with stop-and-stare capability and active electronically scanned array (AESA) designs are acceptable, provided vendors address impacts on life cycle costs, reliability, maintainability, and long-term sustainment. Vendors should detail maximum detection, tracking, and engagement ranges per target type to support defense design planning. The RFI explicitly does not seek ballistic missile defense capabilities at this time. As a template document containing vendor questions and government responses, it does not establish binding contractual requirements or include response dates, award information, or contract vehicle specifications.

# Vendor Question USG Response 1 Is this for an air platform or ground based? Ground-Based. The system architecture is strictly for ground-based deployment.
2 What is considered low cost? Low-Cost Objective: The target unit cost objective is less than $10 million (<$10M).
3 Assuming ground based, is a rotating radar with stop and stare acceptable?
Yes, a rotating radar with stop-and-stare capability is acceptable. Vendors should address how this design impacts overall Life Cycle Costs, specifically regarding reliability, maintainability, and long-term sustainment.
4 Is 360 capabilities required for staring AESA array (IE Must engage multiple targets simultaneously)?
Yes, 360-degree coverage and engagement capabilities are required, regardless of whether an active electronically scanned array (AESA) or a rotating system is proposed. The Fire Control Radar (FCR) must possess the capability to simultaneously engage multiple targets using two or more distinct types of kinetic effectors.
5 Is desire to mount to a turret or keep separate from the effector?
The preferred configuration is to keep the FCR separate from the effector. However, vendors are encouraged to provide technical details and trade-offs regarding alternative integration methods if it enhances the overall operational success or survivability of the system.
Is objective detection, tracking and engagement ranges for a remote weapon station that has a very limited effector range (<1Km)? Counter UAS missile with a 3-7Km range? or for ballistic missile defense for large missile and extended ranges?
The System Program Office (SPO) is seeking capability details for the FCR against cruise missiles and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Groups 1 through 5. The SPO is not seeking information regarding ballistic missile defense capabilities at this time. Specific effector engagement ranges will be determined by the defense design laydown or Concept of Employment. Vendors should detail their FCR's maximum detection, tracking, and engagement ranges per target type to assist in this planning.
