RFIs 26 August 2009

Question #2: Is there phased construction?

Answer #2: No. The building will be vacated so all construction can be performed all at once.

Question #3: On page 01/A501 note #8 states that it is "not used", but other notes similar in nature indicate door work. Is this note truly not being used on this page?

Answer #3: The page and sheet number referenced appear to be incorrect.

Referenced sheet numbers most likely AD01, AD02, and A101. On sheet AD01 the callout for Note 06 on the drawing is in error and should have been changed to Note 08 as that door is wood. On Sheet AD02 there is a missing Note 08 callout that should have been pointing at the door leading to the shaft AG as that door is wood and needs to be removed. On sheet A101 Note 08 is in error and should be the same as found on sheet A100, (PROVIDE NEW HOLLOW METAL FIRE DOOR 3'-0"x7'-0"

WITH NEW HARDWARE PER SPECIFICATION).

Question #4: There are specifications for flooring installation, but flooring is indicated to be removed nor installed on the demolition/architectural drawings.

Answer #4: The only flooring required to be removed and replaced is what is in rooms A123 and A225. These rooms currently have carpet which is on top of vinyl tile which is known to have asbestos containing mastic as shown on Environmental drawings H001 and H002 and the Asbestos Inspection Report in the Appendix to the Specifications. The callout for the demolition and replacement of the flooring was left off the drawings but the requirement was added with Addendum 2 of the contract.

Question #5: If new flooring is to be installed, is it to be installed over the existing substrate?

Answer #5: No, new static resistant tile flooring will require removal of current flooring. Existing substrate will require asbestos abatement and it currently is covered with carpet. (reference Addendum 2)

Question #6: What are the deck heights in this facility?

Answer #6: Deck heights are shown on Sheets M503 and M504. Basement is shown as 11'-9", first floor is shown as 13'-0", and second floor is shown as 12'-0".

Question #7: Detail 07/A501 shows the sheet metal closure panel being installed on one side of the door, but the note directs the contract to "screw attach with a minimum 3 screws per side". Does that mean that the metal closure panel is to be installed on both sides of the door?

Answer #7: The metal closure panel is to be installed only on the office side of the door, and held down with a minimum of 3 screws, as viewed from each side of the rectangular panel (8 screws minimum).
