F-22 HORIZONTAL STABILIZER FIXTURES

FA8224-19-R-A002

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS PART 5

Question:

Can the USAF supply us with a 3D model of the Horizontal Stabilizer, or at least more inertial information.

This information will further breakdown weight and inertia? Plus knowing how far into the composite stabilizer, the 10” diameter shaft extends.

This information would allow us to see how much weight and inertia is contained in a very specific location.

Answer:

We cannot send a model of the tail. There are a variety of configurations of the F-22 horizontal tail each with slightly unique repairs that will impact its inertial moments differently. The conservative value that could be designed to is 350,000 lb-in^2 if rotated about the center of gravity.
