SOLICITATION FA8224-12-R-0016

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS #3

1. Appendix A, part B (1) refers to MIL-L-8552C, which in parts 3.4.1, 3.4.2.1, and 3.4.3 (c) requires the Drawings or Report shall contain design data including "the total air volume and isothermal pressure in the extended and fully compresses positions..." Section 4.9.7 h. and Appendix A section 2.C (1) g. and h. describe the test with the strut filled with 200 psig nitrogen at the extended position, and then compressed (cycled 6 times).

What is the remaining internal volume of nitrogen when the strut is in the fully compressed position? Or alternatively what is the compression ratio?

Answer:

4.9.7 Horizontal cycle pressure test

The following are the volumes of the nitrogen with cylinder at full extension and 17.5" stroke.

Full extended volume...... cylinder bore dia. 10.624", cylinder height 22.155" .....1,963.98 cubic in

17.5" stroke (From full extended).... cylinder bore dia. 10.624, cylinder height 4.625"....409.99 cubic in

Note: Cycle stroke cannot be at full extension or compression(sec 4.9.7 h.) and (Figure 4.9.1.C) Make height adjustment of volume calculations according to where the strut cycle will start and end.

****NOTE: Any further questions should be submitted no later than Dec 27, 2011 3:00pm MST for a timely response before the closing date of this Solicitation.*******
