Q14. Our understanding is the new fence includes two sets of double swing gates, and the new fence and 12’ gate tie into the existing security fence. Please clarify the fence grounding requirements noted on detail A3/C503 in relation to this project.

1) If grounding is required at corners (one for this project), are there any additional requirements at the double swing gates?

2) Note 1 on detail A3 states that the Contractor is to verify ground resistance OHM measurement to be less than 25 OHMS. Will this apply only for the new section of fence and gates prior to tie-in to existing or will the contractor also be made responsible for testing the entire fence (including existing)? If required, please advise us on the LF of existing fence, corners, number of breaks in the fence/gates, and other grounding requirements in order to meet the ground resistance PHM measurement requested.

A14. For fencing, we require grounding (typically a 10' depth, 3/4" dia. copper ground rod linked to fence base with copper wire) at ALL CORNER POSTS, MINIMUM ONCE EVERY 300' OF

NEW FENCING, OR AT EACH GATE LOCATION (ONE OF THE GATE POSTS). This is for lightning strike safety. As for existing fencing, the base would have to determine if they want any of the existing or modified fenceline to be grounded if is not in its existing state.

Q15. Please clarify the following items related to the new air compressor system:

* Note 2.A on the Air Compressor Schedule calls for a weather resistant enclosure. Our understanding is the air compressor will be installed inside the mechanical room (106) per note

P9 on A1/P-401. If this is correct, then please provide clarify if the weather resistant enclosure is still required, otherwise we will need a make, model and detail on how the enclosure is to be installed in the space allotted.

* The make and model of the compressor specified does not have a Variable Speed Drive as called for under Air Compressor Schedule Note 2.B. Please clarify this item. If a VSD is required, then will a new air compressor model be specified or do we provide the compressor specified without a VSD?

A15. The scheduled model (INGERSOLL RAND UP6-30-1-125) has a factory provided NEMA

Type 4 enclosure. This type of enclosure is for indoor/outdoor installations to protect against the ingress of debris and water. If a different model is desired, then it must be provided with an equivalent enclosure rating.

The VFD is not required. The BOD model has integral controls to protect the equipment from damage.

Q16. There is no call for dowels connecting new slab to existing slab/grade beam.

(see red)

There is also no call for dowels at ramps.(Blue), But dowels are called for to connect footing to cmu.

FA6675-18-R-0001 B1656 RFI 002

Typically dowels are epoxied into wall/grade beams to keep slab edges the same height while allowing for expansion and contraction.

A16. Dowels were not intended in the open office 105 design. The new slabs on grade are floating slabs as the majority of these slabs are adjacent to CMU walls that extend below grade.

Dowels are provided at the new addition’s exterior door only per A2/S-301 such the concrete can be continuous for the door sill and finish as no joint is intended at this location. A new expansion material and threshold is to be provided in the tile at the hallway transition from room

105 to the existing concrete line.

At locker room 103, dowels shall be provided on the plan east side of the new concrete pour, but not at the plan west side where the new slab is adjacent to the new CMU. Dowels shall be #4 @

16” O.C. Also provide dowels at the concrete repair in rooms 102 and 104.

At the exterior ramps, dowels were not intended but can be provided if the contractor and/or base prefer.

Much of the sawcut and replacement is within the mechanical room which does not have a floor finish and will not have regular user/pedestrian foot traffic, therefore, dowels were not intended.

Additionally, the existing slab is a floating slab that is not doweled to the walls.

The contractor and base may add dowels if preferred, however the design does not require them except as noted.

Q17. On sheet AD102, Keynote DA35 it states "Remove metal roofing to accommodate new roof and roof structure". It's outlined to remove the entire section of the roof to the ridge. On sheet A-103, keynote A47 and detail

A2/A-301. It only calls to extend the existing standing seam roof. Our concern is that this is not a standard installation for a standing seam roof and this application would not be covered under the manufacturer's weather tightness warranty. Standing seam panels need to be installed continuously from the edge to the edge of the roof.

A17. Note DA35 refers to removing the amount of roofing required to accommodate the installation of the new panels, full removal of the roof is not necessarily required. Building additions are standard practice in the construction industry and the manufacturer's weather tightness warranty is required for the new portion of roofing.
