A.SBESTOS SURVEY REINSPECTION RESULTS

FOR

BUILDING 830

REQUESTED BY

DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE

AIR FORCE RESERVE COMMAND

934rn LOGISTICS GROUP/LGC

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL AIR FORCE RESERVE STATION

CONTRACT NUMBER O&S 005073

August 14, 2001

PREPARED FOR

Tom Tangeman Barr Engineering Company

4700 West 77ttt Street Minneapolis, Minnesota 55435

Performed By

Applied Environmental Sciences, Inc.

934t1t Logistics Support Squadron/LGC Building 830

OVll.:RVIEW/RECOMMENDATIONS

The asbestos inspection of Building 830 located on the Air Force Reserve Base, Minneapolis-St. Paul Air Reserve Station, Minnesota~ conducted on December 15, J 998, by Jerry Anderson and Jack Starcevich, certified asbestos building inspectors employed by Applied Environmental Sciences, Inc. (AES). Braun lntertec Corporation performed a 1995 inspection for this building and formulated an Operations and Maintenance Plan. Limited bulk sampling was conducted by AES in September 1999.

AES' sampling results are included in Appendix. I.

The following suspect asbestos-containing building .materials (ACBM) were found in this building and assumed to contain asbestos:

* 12"x 12" floor tile and mastic - 5 types

Materials which were sampled and found to be nonasbestos-containing were not included in the "Asbestos Reinspection Report Results" table. They include:

Gypswn board and joint compound Ceiling tile, 2'x 2'

The previous inspection found no visible ACBM during the survey.

Asbestos abatement projects may have been conducted in this building. These actions have been documented by the Air Force Reserve Civil Engineering department and such documentation is located at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Air Force Reserve Station Civil Engineering building.

Thermal system insulation (TSI) has been discovered inside plaster waJls, above ceilings and under sidewalks during renovation and construction activities. During any renovation or construction activity, it should be assumed that the possibility exists that TSI may be present in these locations. TSI may also be present in locations underground ·where buildings previously existed. These locations are in an entombed existence posing minimal exposure to personnel unless excavated.

All ACBM is in a "not damaged'' condition requiring no remedial action.

As per the 934th Airlift Wing Civil Engine~ring Department, floor tile and suspended ceiling panels installed since the 1988 survey were installed under the Federal Acquisition Regulations which specified the use of nonasbestos-containing materials.

For purposes of this reinspection.. these materials are asswned to be nonasbestos containing and were not included in the reinspection. If the installation date of materials could not be determined the materials are assumed to contain asbestos until testing can show otherwise.
