2.5 WATER

Suitable quality for irrigation.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 PREPARATION

a. Subgrade: After areas required to be turfed have been brought to the required subgrade, thoroughly till to minimum depth of 150mm by scarifying, disking, harrowing, or other approved methods. Remove debris and stones larger than 25mm in any dimension remaining on surface after tillage.

b. Topsoiling: Immediately prior to placing existing topsoil, scarify subgrade to a 50mm depth for bonding of topsoil with subsoil. Spread topsoil evenly to a minimum depth of 100mm. Do not spread topsoil when excessively wet or dry. Correct irregularities in finished surfaces to eliminate depressions. Protect finished topsoil areas from damage by vehicular or pedestrian traffic.

c. Fertilizer and Soil Conditioners:

1. Application Rates and Analysis: Apply fertilizer and soil conditioner at rates recommended by the manufacturer.

2. Depth: Incorporate fertilizer and soil conditioners into soil to minimum depth of

150mm. This may be done as part of the subgrade tillage operation specified herein.

3.2 SODDING

a. Placing: Place sod a maximum of 36 hours after initial harvesting, in accordance with ASPA GSS as modified herein. Thoroughly moisten areas to be sodded immediately prior to placing sod.

b. Spot Sodding: Cut sod into plugs 50mm square or 50mm in diameter. Place individual pieces of sod and press firmly into soil by foot pressure or by tamping.

c. Sodding Slopes: For slopes 2:1 and greater, lay sod with long edge parallel to slope.

Anchor each piece of sod with wood pegs or wire staples maximum 60cm on center. On slope areas, start sodding at bottom of the slope.

d. Finishing: After completing sodding, blend edges of sodded area smoothly into surrounding turfed area.
