PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION:
Install the fence on previously prepared surfaces to line and grade as indicated. Clear fence line of trees, brush and other obstacle to install fencing. Install fence in accordance with the drawing, specification, and manufacturer’s written installation instructions, except as modified herein. When solid rock is encountered near the surface, the contractor must drill into the rock at least 305 millimeter (12 inches) for line posts and at least 457 millimeter (18 inches) for end, pull, corner, and gate posts.
a. Post Spacing: Remove loose and foreign materials from holes and the soil moistened prior to placing concrete. Provide line posts spaced equidistant apart, not to exceed 3-m (10-foot) centers maximum. Provide corner posts with bracing in both directions.
b. Post Setting: Set post plumb. Provide post anchorage as indicated in the drawings. Cure concrete and grout a minimum of 72 hours before any further work is done on the posts.
32 31 13-5
c. Bracing: Brace corner, end, and pull posts to the nearest post with a horizontal brace used as a compression member and two truss turnbuckles used as tension members.
d. Supporting Arms (Top Guards): Supporting arms shall be of the design as required to accommodate the top rail. Install supporting arms as indicated by the manufacturer. In addition to manufacturer's standard connections, securely anchor supporting arms to posts in such manner that will prevent easy removal with hand tools. Studs driven by low-velocity powder-actuated tools may be used with steel, wrought iron, ductile iron, or malleable iron. Do not use studs driven by any powder-actuated tool with gray iron or other material that will be fractured.
e. Top Rails and Bottom Rails: Install top rails and bottom rails before installing chain-link fabric.
Pass the top rail through intermediate post caps. Provide expansion couplings spaced as indicated.
f. Bottom Tension Wires: Install bottom tension wires before installing chain-link fabric and pull the wires taut. Top and bottom tension wires shall be within 20 cm of the respective fabric line.
g. Fabric: Pull fabric taut and secure fabric to top rail and bottom rail, and top wire and bottom wire, close to both sides of each post and at intervals of not more than 60 cm on centers. Secure fabric to posts using stretcher bars and ties or clips or by integrally weaving to integral fastening loops of end, corner, pull, and gateposts for the full length of each post. Install fabric on the opposite side of posts from the area being secured. Install fabric so that bottom of fabric is at 5 cm (2 inches) above ground level. Install fence fabric to provide approximately 5 cm (2 inches) deflection at the center of fabric span between two posts, when a force of approximately 13.6 kg (30 pounds) is applied perpendicular to the fabric. The fabric should return to its original position when force is removed.
h. Barbed Wires: Install barbed wires on supporting arms (top guards) above the fence posts.
Extend each end member of gate frames sufficiently above the top member to carry three strands of barbed wire in horizontal alignment with barbed wire strands on the fence. Pull each strand taut and securely fastened to each supporting arm and extended member. The method of securing wires shall be positive and complete and in accordance with the fence manufacturer's recommendations.
3.2 GATE INSTALLATION: Install gates plumb, level, and secure, with full opening without Interference. Install ground set items as recommended by the fence manufacturer. Adjust hardware For smooth operation and lubricated where necessary.
3.3 GROUNDING:
Restore grounding damaged by this construction. Provide grounding on new installed fence and Gates.
3.4 SECURITY:
Construct new security fencing, remove existing security fencing, and perform related work to provide continuous security for the using activity. Schedule and fully coordinate the work with the Contracting Officer and respective Security Officer.
3.5 CLEANUP:
Remove waste fencing materials and other debris from the fencing site in accordance with the requirement specified in Section 02 41 00, “Demolition and Removal”. The Contractor is allowed to transport only any unsalvage metals or removed chain link fence to Kadena Recycling Center, Bldg.3140, telephone number 634-2600/0448.
