Repair CH&PP Electrical Panels & Circuits, Phase A
Bidder Questions and Answers, 1 June 2018
Q1. Note 3 on Sheet 2 calls for all unused conduit and conductors to be removed back to the source.
Will this not apply to the concrete-encased conduits? What will be expected by the owner if the conductors are stuck in the concrete-encased conduits? See photo 140255 and 140223.
A1. Abandoned conduit embedded in concrete can be cut off flush with the concrete surface and plugged. If the abandoned conductors in the concrete encased conduit can't be pulled out, they should be cut off just below the level of the concrete surface so they can't be seen poking out of the patch.
Q2. Are any of the conduits installed or expected to be installed in classified areas? Some of the existing fixtures seem to be installed with Class 1, Div 2 conduit bodies. See attached photo 135105.
A2. For Phase A there is no work in classified areas, however, the drawings (sheet F500) show that all of the work area is subject to periodic washdown, so boxes and panels shall provide protection against hose directed water. Despite what is shown on sheet F500, however, electrical equipment will NOT be subjected to hose streams in the turbine room on the first floor. In the first floor turbine room only, boxes and panels shall be dust-tight and provide protection from dripping and light splashing.
Q3. If temporary lighting is used to utilize existing conduits, is there an expected foot candle required for each space? See note 2 on sheet 2
A3. Temporary lighting should provide illumination that is not dimmer than the existing lighting in each area.
Q4. Will any wall prep be required where new distribution equipment is to be installed?
A4. Sweep and mop the floor. Wipe down the wall to remove accumulated dust, dirt or grease.
Q5. JA-2_Specs page 19 of 242 (01030-9) calls out requirements for supervision on site. Can the general supervisor/superintendent (reference H-1-a on page 19) also serve as the safety officer (reference H-1-b on page 19)?
A5: Yes, the on-site superintendent may also serve as the safety officer.
