DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE

27TH SPECIAL OPERATIONS CONTRACTING SQUADRON (AFSOC)

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE NEW MEXICO

09 August 2022

SUBJECT: Requests for Information (RFI) – Government Responses

1. Will the Chapel staff be moving out all the existing equipment/supplies from the kitchen and the adjoining closet prior to the contractor starting work? Things like the dishwasher, the microwave, or any other loose items that may get in the way of the demolition.

- Correct, facility users are responsible for moving and storing their equipment during this construction project.

2. Can the Government provide the cut sheet/spec sheet for the dishwasher you plan to buy to replace the existing one? That way the contractor can know the dimensions to build around for the sink area.

- The shroud to cover the under-sink plumbing should not extend to cover the dishwasher, so the spec sheet should not be necessary when building around the sink area. If for whatever reason this does turn out to add a conflict when building around the sink, the Government will provide the cut sheet/spec sheet at that time.

3. Will demo need to be performed during off-hours, or can they do it during standard workday hours?

The noise may be disruptive to Chapel services.

- This project will have regular work hours as indicated in the statement of work. The end user / customer for this project is aware of the construction that will be taking place during normal work-day hours. The Government does not anticipate that the Contractor will ever need to worry about working around Chapel Services.

4. Can we be provided the square footage of asbestos tiles?

- Black mastic under the floor tiles in the closet does exist and is a part of the extension. The room is about 13’ 6” by 6’ 6”. Contractor can expect 90sqft of tile requiring abatement.

5. Are you looking for a particular material for the countertops?

- Material must be resilient enough for long-term, semi-commercial use. Chapel users have specifically asked for a more durable material than existing laminate, but there is no brand name material that the Government is requiring.

6. Which/how many cabinets will require locks?

- Approximately 50% of doors and cabinets. Specs do not specify specific cabinets which will require locks; however, the Contractor can expect to need to supply locks similar to Drawer and Cabinet Lock, Stainless Steel.

7. Will the water service in the existing pantry be furred out or relocated? If relocated, where will it be moved to?

- No relocation; only enclosed if required by code. If the Contractor believes furring out the water service provides benefit to the project, you are free to propose as such and the Government will review and decide if acceptable.

8. Would it be within scope to relocate the water line to the door opening that will be closed off involving demo-ing that wall?

- Relocation of water line not in scope. Contractor should only experience challenge with the water line because it sticks about 6in out from the wall, so they will have to work around it, but relocating it is not necessary. However, if the Contractor believes that relocating it provides benefit to the project, you are free to propose as such and the Government will review and decide if acceptable.

9. Can you confirm if you're wanting the contractor to provide their own recommendation for countertop material?

- Correct, please provide recommendation. The Government does not have a brand name material in mind.

10. Just to confirm, is the expectation that the end user will be needing to remove the dishwasher themselves to make room for the cover/shroud around the sink as per the SOW prior to the contractor commencing work, so it's not in their way? From what I gather, you do not want the contractor touching the dishwasher at all.

- Dishwasher will be removed by the Government prior to start work.

11. Will the new expanded area require additional lighting installed, or just new fixtures in existing locations?

- The extended area will be considered part of the kitchen and the entire area will require new lighting and ceiling.

12. For items that are required by code (fire pull stations, GCFI outlets, water line enclosure), what exactly does the code say regarding these items? In other words, ARE they required by code? And if so, can that documentation be provided in the specs?

- Fire pull station shall be installed near exit per NFPA 101; all outlets within kitchen shall be replaced with GFCI-type per 2020 NEC.

13. For the heat detectors, if any of the current ones are NOT operable, will the contractor need to replace them, or will the end user be replacing those themselves? IOW, are replacement heat detectors within scope?

- Replacement of heat detectors are within scope. Contractor to furnish all heat detectors which need replacement.
