QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: Cable Re-Route Building 641 Project
1. Question: In reading over the specs there is a section " 8.0. GEOSPATIAL INFORMATION". Which requires GPS surveying equipment? Can you verify that this is not required for this project?
Answer: We will require as-built drawings only for this project - not GPS surveying.
2. Question: Can you have confirmed that the 3-cell 3" mutli-cell collapsible mesh type innerduct is to be installed either in the new conduits from MH74 to Bldg.641, the existing conduits in which the new FOC and Copper cable will be ran or both?
Answer: 3-cell 3" mutli-cell collapsible mesh type innerduct is to be installed is to be installed in the new conduits and the existing conduits in which the new FOC cable will be ran.
3. Question: Regarding the copied statement below from the SOO. Can you confirmed that the 12-strand FOC is being pulled back to only Bldg. 635 as discussed in our site visit? Not Bldg. 693 as stated below.
'2.2. Cable Preparation. Contractor shall pull back the existing 100-pair copper cable back from the Building 641 junction box on the concrete slab to be demolished to MH71 (near Building 635) and 12-stand SM FOC back to Building 693 in the ITN Room (Room 125B) in communications equipment racks designated RR9305.'
Answer: The existing fiber optic cable will be removed from the pull-box on the concrete slab at Building 641, to MH74, then to MH71, and finally disconnected at MH70A. Our Cable Shop will remove it the rest of the way into Building 635.
4. Question: Will a drawing be released to show the actual path of the existing manhole system between all of the buildings associated with this project?
Answer: Drawings posted on FBO.
5. Question: Document "Bldg_641_Cable_SOO_(revised_)" stated under "3.3. Technical References" that the following documents are being referenced:
a. Please clarify where we can find these documents:
i. Langley AFB Specification for Outside Plant Telecommunication Cable Installation << OSP Cable Specifications and Drawings>>
ii. Langley AFB Telecommunications Building Cabling Systems Standards <<Building Telecommunications Wiring>>
iii. Drawings and Maps <<Bldg 641 Cable Reroute Plan (revised 101.pptx>> (Note: a drawing was included in the documents called "Bldg_641_Cable_Reroute_Plan", please verify that this is the "revised 101" drawing.
Answer: These documents are posted on FBO.
6. Question: Please clarify that the Building entrance box outside of Building 641 is to be replaced so that it has a closable lid or is the existing box to be reused. See picture.
Answer: Concur. The Building entrance box outside of Building 641 is to be replaced.
7. Question: Please verify the route of the Fiber Optic cable to be removed from Building 635. Please indicate the route the cable takes after exiting Building 635 as well as which manholes are used for this route so that a proper estimate can be accomplished for the demotion of this cable.
Answer: The existing fiber optic cable will be removed from the pull-box on the concrete slab at Building 641, to MH74, then to MH71, and finally disconnected at MH70A. Our Cable Shop will remove it the rest of the way into Building 635.
8. Question: Please verify if a simple wall mount enclosure can be used in lieu of a splice case due to the limited space available in the Skiff area's cable entrance communications room of building 693 where we are required to transition from an OSP cable to an Interior cable.
Answer: Our cable shop shared some valuable information on Tuesday. They stated that MH P12A butts up against the existing crawlspace under Bldg 693.
This crawlspace provides easy access to the underside of the comm room. The intent would be for the contractor to provide the fiber cable from MH P12A into the crawlspace, run into innerduct supported under the floor with J-hooks to the comm room fiber cabinet. This will eliminate the need for the transition splice and any need for base coordination through the SCIF.
9. Question: Inside Building 693: Please clarify that there are no plenum spaces in the above ceiling cable route from the SKIFF to the Communications room and that a NON-PLENUM fiber optic cable can be used.
Answer: Reference answer to question 5 - NON-PLENUM fiber optic cable can be used.
10. Question: Building 693 rack: Please verify that we will be using exiting panels within the rack, but new patch panels at Building 641.
Answer: Existing fiber optic distribution panels in both locations will be reused but new fiber termination panels (bulk-heads) will be required to be provided.
11. Question: Do you know the size of the existing splice enclosure that the copper cable is to be using? I want to be sure we have the correct amount of encapsulate to reseal the enclosure.
Answer: Please use your professional judgement until we have the answer.
