About this file

This is a Salient Characteristics document for Combat Mission Folder (CMF) cases, Revision 01, dated February 2026, for Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington.

The requirement is to construct 35 metal CMF cases designed for aircraft configurations to transport and securely store secret documents for aircrew. Cases must be constructed from 1/16" and 3/16" steel sheets with riveted or welded seams, measuring 25 1/2" in length, 14" in width, and 17 1/4" in height. Each case requires two 5" x 5" x 3/16" steel plates welded to the bottom with countersunk holes (90 degrees, 1/8" depth) for floor plate installation. Cases must feature an inward-bent top opening lip (1/2" high and 7/8" wide), hinged lids with a chain lid stop, chest-style handles (3 3/4") centered on front and back with the top positioned 3 3/4" from the bottom, and a welded and centered latch on the lid edge. All cases must be painted with enamel paint, FS 36173 (Federal Standard 595), known as Air Mobility Command (AMC) Gray or Subdued Gray. Cases must be tamper resistant to visibly indicate any unauthorized access attempts and remain uniform across the fleet to ensure weight and balance compliance. Delivery is required to 600 S. Hansell Avenue, Fairchild AFB, WA 99011.
