1.0 SITE STRUCTURE

Building 860 is a single-story, approximately 7,740 sq. ft. structure; built in 1959. The building is constructed of concrete masonry with a stucco finish. Interior finishes include drywall with skim coat walls. Flooring materials include carpet, floor tile, ceramic tile, and mastic. Bathrooms have ceramic tile and grout on the walls and floors. The occupants of this building have recently remodeled (still in-progress) the interior of this building.

The building was split up into three areas; the office area, the annex area and the attic area. The office area is represented by the main section of the building and includes offices, a kitchen, restroom, a fitness room and locker room. The annex area is attached on the east side to the office area and includes classrooms and a conference room. The attic area is located above the main office area. Homogenous materials were identified in each section and sampled accordingly.

2.0 FINDINGS

Six homogenous materials were identified in the assessment areas with a total of 6 samples being analyzed by the laboratory. Samples that exceed the EPA-defined asbestos containing material (ACM) level of 1.0% by polarized light microscopy (PLM) testing are summarized in Table 1 for all areas. Table

2 identifies all samples taken in each area that according to laboratory results do not contain asbestos.

The laboratory report shown in Appendix C contains the PLM results for all the suspect ACM samples collected from the building.

* Sample number 860-115-NF-CA was taken as a carpet adhesive material sample, but it is this assessors professional opinion that the 2% Chry lab result is not the carpet adhesive, but mastic residue mixed in with the carpet adhesive left on the concrete from 9” x 9” floor tile taken out during a renovation that had asbestos present as stated in a previous survey.

Based on survey observations or the sample analytical results, Tetra Tech recommends removal of all

ACM listed in Table 1 by a licensed asbestos abatement contractor before any work disturbs the materials. If the ACM is not disturbed during any renovation processes, the ACM may be left in place.

* This ID number corresponds to the ID numbers listed on the figure identifying where the sample was taken.

Based on these sample analytical results, Tetra Tech recommends no further action be taken if the non-

ACMs listed in Table 2 are disturbed.

3.0 ASSUMPTIONS AND DEVIATIONS

The following suspect and/or assumed ACMs were identified but not sampled for one or more of the following reasons: limitations on access; limitation on destructive sampling in a specific area because of use; prospect of damage unable to be repaired, thus leaving the possibility of a future asbestos fiber release; or previous analytical reports identifying the material as containing asbestos (PACM).

• Destructive Sampling Limitations: Stucco on the exterior walls; joint compound associated with the drywall in the office area; possible electrical wiring wrap throughout all areas of the building (safety issue); and ceramic tile and associated grout and mastic in the office area, specifically the bathrooms.

• PACM: Thermal system insulation (TSI) in the attic area on the joints of the domestic water pipes.

• Limitations on Access: The annex area was not accessible; all three rooms were occupied and were not to be disturbed.

The previous survey identifies the following materials as containing asbestos; the current survey did not identify these materials. Renovations have occurred since the previous survey; therefore the materials may have been removed.

• 9x9 floor tile and associated mastic in the office area

The roof was not accessible but appeared to be covered with gravel, a previous survey indicated that roofing sealant was present and contained asbestos. The previous survey also indicates that the wallboard in rooms 104 and 105 of the annex area contains 2% chrysotile asbestos. This area was inaccessible due to a class in session.

Samples of the suspect ACMs not sampled during this survey should be taken by a licensed asbestos inspector, prior to any disturbance of the materials to determine if the material contains asbestos.
