About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers file dated 18 September 2025 for a United States Air Force (USAF) procurement of a Medium Shelter system. The Q&A addresses technical specifications for the shelter, including generator, environmental control units (ECUs), storage container, and warranty details. Key clarifications include: the USAF will not require 100% powder-coated frame, supplemental insulation, or additional ECUs; they will accept an upgrade from a 20kW to a 30kW generator; the 8' x 24' storage container must be fork liftable, stackable, and made of durable material; and the warranty will remain at the minimum 12-month period specified in the original Statement of Work.

Questions and Answers
18 September 2025
1. The Alaska Medium Shelter has a 100% powder-coated frame, not just the base frame sections. Will the USAF add this requirement to the salient characteristics?
- No, we do not need the powder coated base frame.
2. Is the Medium Shelter required to include a supplemental insulation system to maintain 72º to 75º interior temperature range when used in ambient temperatures up to 120ºF with only (2) 5-ton ECUs? If no supplemental insulation is provided, then we recommend (4) 5-ton ECUs to maintain this internal temperature range.
- No, we do not need the insulation layer or additional ECUs.
3. Is the Medium Shelter required to be packed in reusable containers or wood crates?
Yes, that is what the 8’ x 24’ container is supposed to be. Salient characteristics for that would be, it must be fork liftable, stackable, and made out of a durable material (equal but not limited to a durable composite material).
4. Are the 5-ton ECUs required to have wheel kits or 4” removable legs?
- No
5. The 20kW generator is not large enough to provide power to (2) 5-ton ECUs and the Medium Shelter. We recommend at least 30kW of power for the shelter and the 2 ECUs. Will the USAF amend the requirement for a 30kW generator on a trailer instead of a cart?
- We can upgrade to a 30kW generator, with the same requirements as the 20kW.
6. What are the minimum salient characteristics of the 8’ x 24’ storage container?
- This is the container described in question 3.
7. Statement of Work, Section 4 specifies a 12-month equipment warranty period. AD offers a 10-year prorated warranty on its Medium Shelter and 5-ton ECUs. Will the USAF amend the salient characteristics to require a 10-year prorated warranty on the Medium Shelter and the ECUs?
- 12 months is the minimum
