FA3300-24-P-0033, Deck and Dock Repairs, Lake Martin Recreation Area (LMRA)
Solicitation Questions and Answers, Revision 01
Per the Site Visit conducted on Tuesday, 04 June 2024, All questions were due by COB on Friday, 07June
2024.
Q1: If the statement of work is revised to encompass doing 100% decking on many of the docks/decks
(which I think is reasonably anticipated), does the facility wish to deck them in 5/4 decking boards or 2x6 dimensional lumber? Dimensional lumber is much more expensive but superior in quality/durability. The same question applies to the docks/decks that currently require 100% replacement of the decking boards, are these to be replaced with 2x6 dimensional lumber or decking boards?
A1: Use 5/4 decking boards (pressure treated).; The dimensional lumber is cost prohibitive.
• Q1(follow up): 2x6x16 deck boards are cheaper than 5/4x6x16 deck boards, and 2’ joist are incompatible with 5/4 decking. Please, specify the deck boards.
Sample pricing: Treated 2x6x16 - $14.36/Treated 5/4x6x16 - $22.75
• A1(Follow up): The Government specifies 2x6x16 lumber for the docks.
Q2: I wish to clarify that no structural stringers/joist are a part of this contract, and that no post are a part of this contract. We understand that from the site visit this appears to be the case, just want an official answer as many of these docks/decks do have structural issues.
A2: Structural stringers or joists are NOT a part of this contract.
Q3: Can a utility survey be provided in reference to the trenching and wire installation that is going to be required between sites 25 and 27. We only need one for this location. Is it expected that the old wire is to be dug up and disposed of or is it to be left in place and a new wire put alongside of it?
A3: A utility survey will be provided to the successful offeror. The old wire is to be abandoned in place.
Q4: Are we to procure a load of gravel to put in where the steps are to be replaced or will the gravel be provided by or installed by the facility? When the steps are pulled up it is going to make a mess. Either the contractor or the facility needs to provide a load of gravel and put it down or it is going to render the new steps a muddy mess.
A4: Offerors should account for supplying a load of crushed stone to use in re-installation of the steps within their proposal (AF3052).
Q5: Is the facility willing to provide a few campsites to facilitate lodging for our crew? This will make it simpler logistically as well as more secure for our tools and equipment storage.
A5: Staying on site will be discussed with the awardee during the Pre-Construction Conference and shall not be a part or contingent part of the anticipated contract.
Q6: Nothing has been said regarding fasteners to be used on the decking (nails or screws). I imagine everyone will be bidding the job with 3" nails in mind (nails would be slightly cheaper). In dock

Solicitation Questions and Answers, Revision 01 applications the nails will pop out within a year and will be a danger to anyone walking on the dock barefoot. 3" screws will hold the deck boards down for the entire life of the decking. Please, clarify which fastener is required.
A6: The Government requires 3” nails.
