About this file

This file is a Questions and Answers document for federal contract FA255026Q0040, titled "9 STS Cabling Bench Stock Refresh." The document addresses clarifications on fiber optic cabling and related infrastructure requirements for the Air Force. Key technical specifications include OM4 multi-mode fiber cables in bulk 24-strand format (CLINs 0001-0007) and duplex/zip configurations (CLINs 0016-0022), LC connector types, and 1U/2U/4U rack-mount 19-inch enclosures with biscuit-type jacks. The government requires splice cassettes for bulk fiber distribution panels (CLINs 0009-0011), UNICAM connectors for workstation cables (CLIN 0014), and a Fiber Zone Box for fusion splicing applications below floor tiles (CLIN 0008).

Additional requirements include duplex or zip patch cords (CLINs 0035-0048), fiber patch cords in 1-meter and 2-meter lengths with LC-LC connectors in seven colors totaling 1,200 units with quantities specified by individual CLINs, and lockable doors for indoor climate-controlled installation. The document clarifies that fiber strand quantities depend on job requirements, that termination methods involve splice cassettes and UNICAM connectors rather than pre-terminated cables or fusion splicing in distro panels, and that any replacement for the discontinued Fujikura 90S+ fusion splicer must maintain full compatibility with existing equipment and require no additional technician retraining.

a. Duplex or zip (CLINs 0035 – 0048)

3. Connector Type: What adapter types do you need on the front, such as LC, SC, ST, or

MTP/MPO?

a. LC

4. Fiber Count: How many fiber strands or ports do you need to terminate right now?

a. It depends on the requirements of the job being performed.

5. Fiber Mode: Are you using single-mode (OS2) or multi-mode (OM3, OM4) fiber cables?

a. OM4 (CLINs 0001 – 0007: bulk 24 strand, CLINS 0016 - 0022 zip or duplex)

6. Enclosure Type: Do you need a rack-mount panel (like 1U or 2U for a standard server rack) or a wall-mount box?

a. 1U/2U/4U Rack mount 19”

7. Available Space: How much rack space (RU) or wall space is open for the unit?

a. Our enclosures are typically 19” W

8. Termination Method: Will you use pre-terminated trunk cables, field-installable connectors, or fusion splicing with pigtails?

a. Neither, we use splice cassettes for bulk fiber to be used in the distro panels (CLINs 0009 - 0011) and UNICAM connectors (CLIN 0014) for the workstation cables.

9. Splice Tray: Do you need internal space and trays to hold fusion splices safely?

a. No the fusion type connectors we use are only used when we use a different type of enclosure called a Fiber Zone Box (CLIN 0008) and we use those below the floor tiles in our spaces.

10. Location: Will the panel go indoors in a climate-controlled room or outdoors in a weatherproof box?

a. Indoors

11. Access Control: Do you need a lockable door or cover to protect the connections from tampering?

a. Lockable doors
