About this file
This is an appendix to a federal lease solicitation that specifies the applicable codes and standards for the Saginaw-Auburn Annex project (RLP # 36C25025R0016). The document establishes that the facility will be classified as a "B" (business) occupancy based on the number of simultaneous patients incapable of self-preservation per NFPA 101 standards.
All design and construction must comply with a comprehensive set of current applicable codes and standards, including: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Joint Commission requirements per NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code) and NFPA 99 (Healthcare Facilities Code); Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Guidelines for Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities; all applicable state, local, and fire codes; ICC/ANSI A117.1 accessibility standards; OSHA standards for healthcare; ENERGY STAR guidelines; Green Globes for Sustainable Interiors (Version 1.15); Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Standards; Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards (ABAAS, 36 CFR Part 1191); Room Finishes, Door & Hardware Schedule requirements; Physical Security & Resiliency Design Manual; and VA Signage Design Guide. The appendix also directs developers to confirm room finish materials, door specifications, and hardware functionality with the local VA interior design team and provides three helpful resource links to the VA Office of Construction & Facilities Management for additional building requirements and design criteria.
