About this file
These are two monthly service reports from Global Water Technology, Inc. for the Oklahoma Veterans Centers at the Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Center, dated January 30, 2025, and February 27, 2025. The reports document water system testing and maintenance for the facility's closed loop and cooling tower systems. During both site visits, the technician Grayson Lavin found the cooling tower system was offline and would be recommissioned in March/April, while the closed loop system was online but critically out of compliance with recommended water treatment parameters.
The closed loop system testing revealed significant issues, including zero sodium nitrite corrosion protection, no chemical bypass feeders, and extremely high iron levels (5+ ppm versus a recommended 0.2 max). Conductivity and pH levels were marginally within acceptable ranges in both months (686/827 mmhos and 7.76/8.34 pH respectively), but the lack of proper chemical treatment posed substantial risks of system corrosion and potential failure. The service reports recommend flushing the system, potentially using a chemical cleaner, and establishing proper inhibitor chemistry before full system restoration.

Opening Comment The purpose of my visit today was to perform testing on all systems (online systems).
Cooling Tower System Online Cooling Tower System is OfflineThe cooling tower system was offline and drained. I was informed that the cooling tower system would be put back online sometime in March/April. We will establish our program at that time.
New chemistry for the cooling tower system will need to be ordered before the system is put back online.
Closed Loop System Online The closed loop system was highly out of range for proper corrosion protection.
Nitrite (ppm as NO2) There was no sodium nitrite corrosion protection in the system. There are no typical chemical bypass feeders installed on the closed loop system. There are filters we may be able to use to add chemistry. Will evaluate next service visit.
Iron (ppm as Fe) The iron reading in the system is very high. The Hach colorimeter meter maxed out at 5.0 ppm, but the reading was much higher (I tried a minimal dilution). The loop may need to be flushed down to city water residuals, and possibly may need a chemical cleaner to clean up the system prior to adding inhibitor.

The above recommendations are designed to minimize risk and maximize efficiency. Failure to adhere to recommendations may put your system and facility at an increased risk of contamination, corrosion, scaling or system failure. Notify your rep of any current or upcoming system changes. GWT advises facilities falling under the scope of ASHRAE Standard 188-2015 and subsequent revisions to assemble a compliant water management program including proactive biological testing (Legionella).
