About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the replacement of existing exhaust ductwork for a Desiccant Dehumidifier (DHU) unit at the Helen Edwards Engineering Research Center (HEERC), FIMS #004, located within Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois. The project is identified as ID#296505, HEERC.004, Task #60.03.14.03.02, with a point of contact of Joseph M. Perona (x4772, 41904N). The work will be completed in DuPage County with an estimated performance period from April 9, 2026 through December 31, 2026. Fermi Forward Discover Group (FFDG) will assign a Task Manager/Construction Coordinator to oversee the project.

The contractor is responsible for all labor, supervision, equipment, measurements, and testing required to complete the work. Key deliverables include: mobilization and safety verification including Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) configuration per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147; removal of existing 2-inch duct insulation and designated ductwork sections with hazard analysis submission; fabrication and installation of new ductwork with inline trap creation using four 90-degree elbows and condensate management system; sealing all ductwork joints to ensure 100% water-tight finish; installation of 3/4" PVC piping with deep seal trap and condensate neutralizer for drainage; commissioning through third-party agent Dry Solutions (Howell, MI) to verify operational performance; and final inspection with submission of O&M manuals, warranties, and commissioning reports. All new ductwork supports must comply with SMACNA standards, and new insulation must match the existing 2-inch thickness. The contractor is responsible for daily site cleanup and proper disposal of debris into a metal dumpster provided by the TM/CC.

PROJECT TITLE: ID#296505, HEERC,004, The replacement of the existing exhaust ductwork for the Desiccant Dehumidifier (DHU).

PROJECT: 60 TASK#: 60.03.14.03.02

Fermi Forward POINT OF CONTACT: Joseph M. Perona x4772 41904N COUNTY THAT WILL BE COMPLETED IN: DuPage.

INTRODUCTION

This Statement of Work (SOW) outlines the provisions of supervision, expertise, labor, materials, and equipment necessary to complete the project.

The work will be performed at the Helen Edwards Engineering Research Center (HEERC), FIMS#004, located within the Fermilab facility located in Batavia, Illinois. Fermilab is operated by the Fermi Forward Discover Group (FFDG), which will assign a Task Manager/Construction Coordinator (TM/CC) to oversee this project.

The subcontractor shall replace the existing exhaust ductwork for the Desiccant Dehumidifier (DHU). The subcontractor is responsible for all aspects of the project's execution, including labor, supervision, equipment, measurements, programming, installation, and testing to ensure the work is completed in accordance with the project specifications. Upon completion, the subcontractor shall turn over the completed work to the FFDG TM/CC.

SCOPE OF WORK

1. Project Preparation & Mobilization

• Mobilization: Contractor shall mobilize all necessary labor, equipment, and materials to HEERC Fims#

004. (Equipment #M004AHU01).

• Safety & Energy Control: Prior to commencement, the TM/CC (Technical Manager/Construction Coordinator) and Contractor must verify that the RTU is shut off and secured in a Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) configuration per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147.

2. Mobilization & Hazard Management

• Insulation Removal: Remove existing 2-inch duct insulation from the RTU unit to the mechanical room wall.

• Hazard Analysis: Contractor must submit a written hazard analysis for the removal and disposal of non-asbestos insulation for approval.

• Ductwork Removal: Remove and dispose of designated ductwork sections as identified in the project drawings.

• Waste Management: The TM/CC will provide a metal dumpster. The contractor is responsible for daily site cleanup and for properly disposing of debris into the provided container.

3. Ductwork Fabrication & Installation

• Inline Trap Creation: Install a square sheet metal 90° and ducting to form an inline trap using four 90° elbows.

• Design Approval: Contractor must submit field measurements and design shop drawings for approval before fabrication.

• Condensate Management:

o Supply and install a condensate pan and a manufactured internal duct.

o Ensure exhaust ducting is pitched towards the new trap and away from the Dehumidification

Air Handling Unit (DHU) to prevent water re-entry.

• Supports: Supply and install all necessary hangers and supports for new ductwork in accordance with SMACNA standards.

4. Sealing & Re-Insulation

• Water-Tight Sealing: Seal all existing and new ductwork joints using approved materials (e.g., mastic or foil tape) to ensure a 100% water-tight finish.

• New Insulation: Install new duct insulation (matching existing 2-inch thickness) following approval of a second installation hazard analysis.

5. Drainage & Plumbing

• PVC Installation: Install 3/4" PVC piping with a deep seal trap from the new pan to the facility floor drain.

• Condensate Neutralization: Install a 3/4" condensate neutralizer and provide all required piping supports.

6. Commissioning

• Third-Party Agent: The Contractor will hire and schedule Dry Solutions (Howell, MI) as the Commissioning Agent.

• Operational Verification: Dry Solutions shall:

o Ensure the unit is running properly and verify the exhaust fan settings for the new duct design.

o Perform a final operational inspection of the DHU and provide a commissioning report.

7. Demobilization
