About this file
The document is a bilingual (English and Spanish) recycling guide for Washington County, Oregon, developed by the Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling program. The guide provides comprehensive instructions for residents on proper waste sorting and recycling practices, categorizing materials into four primary bins: Recycle, Garbage, Yard Debris, and Glass. It details specific items that can and cannot be placed in each category, including acceptable plastics, metals, paper products, yard waste, and glass bottles, while clearly indicating prohibited items such as electronic waste, hazardous materials, and "compostable" serviceware.
The guide offers residents multiple resources for determining proper recycling methods, including a website (WashingtonCountyRecycles.com) and phone number (503-846-3605) for the "What to Recycle and Where?" tool. It provides special notes for residents in Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Forest Grove regarding potential food scrap inclusion with yard debris, and includes guidance for motor oil disposal. The document is designed to improve recycling compliance and reduce contamination by clearly illustrating the top five items to keep out of recycling bins and providing visual examples of correct sorting practices across different material types.
