1 Introduction
This document guides the reader through the setup and testing procedure for the Front-End Motherboards (FEMBs) that will be used in the DUNE detector. The procedure follows a defined Quality Control (QC) workflow designed to verify the functionality of the FEMBs under both room-temperature and cryogenic operating conditions.
The QC sequence includes three main testing stages: an initial full test at room temperature (Warm QC Test), a full test at cryogenic temperature (Cold QC Test) to reproduce detector operating conditions, and a final checkout after the boards have returned to room temperature.
This full temperature cycle helps verify that the FEMBs remain functional before, during, and after exposure to cryogenic conditions.
In addition to the testing sequence itself, this manual also describes the required equipment, the preparation of the test setup, the installation of the FEMBs into the CTS, the necessary cable connections, and the disassembly and packaging steps after testing is complete.
The document is structured as follows:
• Section 2 lists the equipment used during the QC procedure and defines the reference codes used throughout the document.
• Section 3 provides a high-level overview of the full QC workflow, including the prepara-tion, warm test, cold test, and post-QC stages.
• Section 4 presents the full itemized QC procedure as followed by the operator during testing.
• Section A explains how to refill the CTS LN2 dewar when needed.
• Section B describes how to prepare the CE boxes for testing.
• Section C explains how to move the CE box support structure into the CTS chamber.
• Section D describes how to connect the system cables on the WIB side.
• Section E explains the disassembly and packaging procedure after testing is complete.
• Section F is reserved for troubleshooting guidance.
We strongly recommend that the reader goes through this manual entirely before starting to perform any tests.

3 Quick Overview of the Operation Procedure
The overall operation procedure consists of 4 phases: Preparation, Warm Test, Cold Test and Post-QC. This is illustrated in Figure 7.
Figure 7: Overall Operation Procedure.
Preparation
Before conducting the QC tests, a preparation process is required to set up the test environment with the CTS. This process includes:
• CTS Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) filling
• CE box preparation
• System moved to CTS chamber
“This information is controlled by the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Administration Regulations 15 CFR Parts 730-774 as EAR99 Technology.”
Warm QC Test
The FEMB QC Test procedure starts with a QC test in room temperature, referred to as Warm QC Test. Only the boards that pass the Warm QC Test will go through the Cold QC Test. Please, refer to Figure 8 for a global view of the procedure. Here, the Warm QC Test is highlighted in yellow.
Figure 8: Workflow for Warm QC Test.
“This information is controlled by the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Administration Regulations 15 CFR Parts 730-774 as EAR99 Technology.”
Cold QC Test
The cold test is the second phase of the QC Procedure, consisting of a detailed scan to verify basic functionality under cryogenic conditions. Refer to Figure 9 for an overall view of the procedure.
Figure 9: Workflow for Cold QC Test.
“This information is controlled by the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Administration Regulations 15 CFR Parts 730-774 as EAR99 Technology.”
Post-QC
After the Cold QC Test is over and the boards are brought back to warm temperature, the script will run a Final Checkout Test to make sure that neither the LN2 immersion for the Cold QC Test nor the gradual increase of temperature of the warm up process damaged them.
An overview of the Post-QC Test can be seen in Figure 10.
Figure 10: Post-QC Test workflow.

4 Itemized QC Procedure
This QC Procedure consists on running a single application that will be guiding the user throughout the test with illustrated pop-up windows. This newer version of the QC script has been carefully designed to automate as many things as possible. To begin with the QC Procedure, run the FEMB QC script in the terminal:
$ python ./CTS_FEMB_QC_top.py
From here on, the script will guide you through the tests. You need to follow the instructions showed in the terminal, and carefully read the information showed in the pop-up windows.
1. First, you have to input your name and email address (twice) and check that the CTS chamber is empty.
Figure 11: Starting the QC Test.
“This information is controlled by the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Administration Regulations 15 CFR Parts 730-774 as EAR99 Technology.”
2. Open a separate terminal and run the Monitor Script: CTS Monitor.py. Set this terminal aside and keep it open for the remaining of the test.
3. After typing confirm, you will be asked to fill out the Log Sheet. This document serves as a log to keep track of everything that happens during the QC tests. Make sure to write down anything you think is important.
Figure 12: Script is asking the user to run the Monitoring Script and fill out the Log Sheet.
4. Type Y if you were able to open the Log Sheet.
“This information is controlled by the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Administration Regulations 15 CFR Parts 730-774 as EAR99 Technology.”
5. Next, the app will check if the LN2 Dewar is full. If it is, it will prompt you to move to the next stage of the testing (Step 9). If it is not, (as shown in Figure 13), it will provide with instructions on how to refill it.
