About this file
This is a questions and answers document related to an Infectious Medical Waste Disposal Services procurement by Greenville County, South Carolina. The County is seeking sealed proposals for medical waste disposal services at multiple facilities including the Detention Center, EMS, and Animal Care. The contract will be established for an initial one-year term commencing July 1, 2025, with the possibility of four annual renewals. The County reserves the right to award the contract to one or more vendors and may add or remove locations as needed.
Based on the EMS facility responses, current waste management includes 28-gallon and 18-gallon cardboard boxes with red biohazard bags, with bi-monthly pickup frequency. Annual medical biohazard waste collection averages 1,300 gallons, while sharps collection averages 36 gallons annually, totaling a maximum of 999 pounds per year. All waste is currently incinerated rather than autoclaved. The facility stores no animal carcasses or pathological waste. Medical sharps and biohazard waste are stored in red biohazard bags within the specified cardboard boxes. The County has not indicated pricing terms, specific contract values, or information regarding incumbents at this time.
