About this file

This document package includes test procedures and equipment lists for acceptance testing of Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) production units. The testing will be conducted for ASOS units in three configurations: ACU, DCP, and SCA.

The test procedures describe the required equipment, which includes computers loaded with National Instruments TestStand software, various test instruments like multimeters and power meters connected via GPIB, as well as cables and adapters. The procedures outline the steps for power-up testing, network setup, functional testing, and post-testing processes. Connections must be made between units under test and test interfaces for conducting voltage checks, sensor measurements, network configuration and validation, audio tests, and loopback tests of Ethernet and modem interfaces. Testing is designed to reduce documentation and train operators by guiding them interactively within the TestStand application.

The solicitation number and opportunity listed seek proposals for an ASOS production requirement. The agency is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration within the Department of Commerce. The document package provides relevant details to inform bid responses, including the configuration of ASOS units and requirements for testing and certifying production units.

By-passing the Power-Up test requires that all equipment be manually set to the correct power settings required to execute individual test sequences. When testing a UUT for the first time, the next most important step is the Network Setup. This procedure must be carried out to configure required devices, and establish the network communication links to all cabinet equipment and cannot be bypassed.

4 Test Sequence Procedures

All operator instructions for the Factory Acceptance Test are embedded within the test application appearing in the form of pop-up windows. Some of these instructions are interactive, requiring operator input to move to the next test. This test architecture reduces the required supporting instruction, and operator learning curve to execute the Factory Acceptance Test. Note: In the event that this procedure document conflicts with the actual “Factory Acceptance Test” the Factory Acceptance Test must take precedence.
