About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) regarding Additive Manufacturing processes, issued by the Navy (N0010427RZ058) in draft form as Section H language for contract requirements.
The RFI establishes authorization for contractors to manufacture and repair components using either traditional manufacturing methods (wrought or cast) or Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes at their discretion. If AM processes are selected, all materials, equipment, and manufacturing processes must strictly adhere to baselines established in Project Peculiar Document (PPD) 802-8436658. AM-produced components are classified as fully interchangeable with traditionally manufactured equivalents, provided they meet all specifications within PPD 802-8436658, eliminating the need for additional component-level requalification based solely on manufacturing method. Regardless of the manufacturing method chosen, final components must conform entirely to applicable material specifications, grades, and dimensional tolerances, with contractors satisfying all Quality Assurance requirements including Non-Destructive Testing and inspection criteria as detailed in governing contract standards and the Technical Data Package. The contractor's election to use AM does not waive, supersede, or alter any functional, structural, or performance requirements for the final component or its integration into higher-level assemblies. Contractors must notify the procuring activity if AM processes are elected for use; this notification is for information purposes only and does not constitute approval to exercise AM. Notifications may be submitted via email or other methods as determined by NAVSUP.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION – ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
N0010427RZ058
DRAFT SECTION H LANGUAGE
Authorized Manufacturing Methods
The Contractor is authorized, at their discretion, to manufacture and or repair components utilizing either traditional manufacturing processes (e.g., wrought or cast) or Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes.
- If Additive Manufacturing Processes are elected, all selected materials, equipment, and manufacturing processes shall strictly adhere to the baselines established in Project Peculiar Document (PPD) 802-
8436658.
AM Component Interchangeability
When Additive Manufacturing is utilized, the resultant AM component shall be classified as fully interchangeable with its traditionally manufactured equivalent. Provided that the component meets all specifications within PPD 802-8436658, additional component-level requalification based solely on the manufacturing method is not required.
Quality Assurance and Material Conformance
Irrespective of the selected manufacturing/repair method (traditional or AM), the final component must conform entirely to the applicable material specifications, grades, and dimensional tolerances. The
Contractor shall satisfy all mandated Quality Assurance (QA) requirements, including Non-Destructive
Testing (NDT) and inspection criteria, as detailed in the contracts governing standards and the Technical
Data Package.
Precedence of Final Assembly Requirements
The Contractor’s election to utilize AM shall not waive, supersede, or alter any functional, structural, or performance requirement applicable to the final component or its integration into the higher-level assembly
Notification for use of AM
The Contractor shall notify the procuring activity if AM processes are elected for use. This notification is for information only and not intended to serve as approval to exercise the use of AM. The notification may be submitted via email, or other method (as determined by NAVSUP).
