About this file
This document is a Salient Characteristics specification for the procurement and installation of replacement Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units and air-cooled chillers for a data center facility.
The procurement requires six (6) indoor downflow chilled water CRAC units (designated CRAC-01 through CRAC-06) and two (2) outdoor air-cooled scroll chillers (CH-1 and CH-2) operating in a parallel N+1 redundant configuration. The CRAC units must feature direct-drive, high-efficiency electronically commutated (EC) fans with air foil plug fan design, motors up to 15 HP, and external static pressure capability of minimum 0.75 inches water gauge. Cooling capacities range from 214.8 to 352.0 MBH depending on unit designation, with chilled water flows from 15 to 75 GPM and total airflow from 9,000 to 19,500 CFM. CRAC units must include high-capacity pleated filtration rated MERV 8 minimum. Each chiller must provide minimum 75-ton capacity at 110°F design ambient conditions, supply 233.3 GPM chilled water flow at 44°F leaving temperature, and achieve minimum 15.3 EER part-load efficiency. Chiller specifications include all-aluminum microchannel condenser coils with corrosion-resistant e-coat, direct-drive composite fans, low-ambient operation capability down to –20°F, and ANSI 316 stainless steel evaporators with factory freeze protection heaters.
All equipment must operate on 460V AC, 3-phase, 60 Hz power with minimum 65 kA short-circuit current rating. Piping must utilize type-L seamless copper or schedule 40 carbon steel with Victaulic-style mechanical couplings, supported by an inline centrifugal air separator, diaphragm-type expansion tank rated 150 psig, and 40-mesh Y-strainers at each chiller inlet. Both chillers and CRAC units require BACnet MS/TP or BACnet/IP communication for Building Management System integration, with chillers featuring integrated master/slave parallel control algorithms for automatic run-hour equalization and lead/lag staging. Indoor units must fit within existing Bravo 2000 floor grid constraints (24" x 24" panels, 18" raised floor height), and outdoor chillers must maintain minimum NEC clearances of 4 feet on electrical panel doors and 3.5 to 6 feet around condenser coils while not exceeding existing structural loading thresholds.
