About this file

This is a Data Item Description (DID) document that establishes the format, content, and requirements for delivering a Technical Data Package (TDP) in federal contracting contexts.

The DI-SESS-80776B standard defines a TDP as the authoritative technical description of an item that is clear, complete, and accurate for its intended use. The TDP supports acquisition, production, inspection, engineering, and logistics activities by documenting design, configuration, performance requirements, and procedures necessary for effective item performance. Deliverable TDP elements shall follow either the Government's format as specified on the TDP Option Selection Worksheet or contractor format as designated in the contract. The TDP must include one or more of the following elements: conceptual, developmental, product, or commercial engineering design data and associated lists; Special Inspection Equipment (SIE) engineering design data; Special Tooling (ST) engineering design data; specifications; software documentation; Special Packaging Instructions (SPI); and Quality Assurance Provisions (QAPs), all in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B. Product engineering design data specifically must document dimensional and tolerance data, critical manufacturing processes and assembly sequences, toleranced input and output characteristics, diagrams, mechanical and electrical connections, physical characteristics including finishes and protective coatings, material identification and treatments, inspection and test criteria, equipment calibration requirements, quality assurance requirements, hardware marking requirements, certifications and environmental and functional testing, vendor substantiation data, software programming requirements, and special consideration items and processes. Reference documents cited must be the applicable issue specified in the contract, including approval dates and amendments. This DID supersedes the previous version DI-SESS-80776A.
