About this file
This is a Scope of Work document issued by the Tennessee Historical Commission for the Cragfont Dry Stack Stone Wall Repair and Restoration Project at Cragfont State Historic Site in Castalian Springs, Tennessee. The project involves the repair and restoration of approximately 2,200 square feet of dry stack stone wall spanning approximately 600 feet in length, with the goal of restoring the structure to an average height of 3.5 feet including copestones. The work will be performed in fifty-foot sections and includes initial assessment and documentation with photography, careful disassembly with removal of modern repair materials, reconstruction using salvageable stones prioritized from the original wall, and quality assurance checkpoints after every three restored sections. Site Director Tonya Staggs and Project Coordinator Bobby Cooley serve as primary contacts for oversight and approval of design modifications, new stone sourcing, and quality assurance reviews.
All contractors must be licensed and insured professionals maintaining safety and professional standards throughout the project. A Licensed Masonry Contractor with LMC classification is required to bid, though General Contractors with BC, BC-B, or BC-B(sm) classifications may bid if they subcontract masonry work for projects valued over $100,000. The contractor is responsible for sourcing all additional stone required beyond salvageable materials from the original wall, with pricing included in the bid and subject to approval by the site director and program coordinator. The contractor must also manage all debris removal from the site, with truck trailers or dumpsters as the preferred removal method.
