About this file
This document is a geotechnical investigation report for the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery Water Supply Project located in Washington state along a proposed pipeline route. The report presents detailed subsurface exploration data collected through six test pits (TP-20-1 through TP-20-6) excavated between July 8-10, 2020, along with geophysical surveys including seismic tomography.
The test pit investigations reveal soil stratigraphy consisting primarily of silty sand with gravel, poorly graded sand with silt and gravel, and poorly graded sand and gravel, with occasional cobbles at deeper intervals. Soil classifications per USCS standards range from SP (poorly graded sand) to SW-SM (well-graded sand with silt and material), with fines content varying from 2.6% to 12.9%. Ring density testing yielded total unit weights between 95.6 and 145.1 lbf/ft³ and dry unit weights between 93.6 and 140.9 lbf/ft³. Ground elevations along the pipeline route range from 1156.6 feet to 1176.6 feet. Particle size distribution analysis indicates materials are predominantly composed of sand (27.8% to 37.3% medium sand), with gravel content of 12.3% to 17.7%. No groundwater was encountered during excavations. The accompanying seismic tomography surveys (SL1-SL7) identify the interpreted top of weathered bedrock and competent bedrock boundaries, providing complementary subsurface velocity characterization to support pipeline design and construction planning.
