The cattle guards shall measure 7'-9" in length along the line of traffic with a specified width of 8 feet and must meet AASHTO-HL-93 load rating design live load standards. The grilles must be constructed of welded steel members forming a rigid deck, with structural steel rails conforming to subsection 717.01(b) and all other structural steel conforming to subsection 717.01(a). Grille rail members shall be square tube steel with 13 rails spaced equally approximately 7-1/2" on-center spanning the 7'9" length. All-welded construction is required with secure and complete welds along both edges of cross pieces and joints. After fabrication, grilles shall be painted or powder coated according to AAMA 2604-05 specifications with Federal Standard Color 24325 as the topcoat color. Delivery must occur 90 days after award on Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to the Hill City Shop located at 24030 Hwy 385 Hill City, SD 57745, with the Contracting Officer or Contracting Officer's Representative notified 72 hours prior to delivery.

CATTLEGUARD MATERIALS
ORDER BLACK HILLS NATIONAL
FOREST
SPECIFICATIONS FOR CATTLEGUARD GRILLES AND BASE UNITS:
A. This is a solicitation for materials and delivery of cattle guard grilles. One unit shall consist of 1 steel cattle guard grille, including one C10x15.3 end locking channel (8’-5” length).
a. End Wings: Shall NOT be provided as part of this solicitation.
b. Object Markers: Markers shall NOT be provided as part of this solicitation.
c. Installation: Shall NOT be a part of this solicitation.
B. Specifications Referenced: The USDA Forest Service has adopted FP-24 for construction of National Forest System Roads. The USDOT, Federal Highway Administration “Standard Specifications for Construction of Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects, U.S.
Customary Units”.
C. Size: Cattle guards shall have a length along the line of traffic of 7’-9”. Each grille shall have a specified width of 8 feet.
D. Design live load shall be AASHTO-HL-93 load rating.
E. Construct the grille units of welded steel members to form a rigid deck. Cattleguards shall be constructed of materials as shown on the drawings and described in these specifications.
F. Structural steel rails shall be formed from high-strength, low alloy structural steel conforming to subsection 717.01(b). All other structural steel shall conform to subsection 717.01(a).
Bolts and Nuts shall conform to subsection 717.01(d). New material shall be used in the fabrication of cattle guards.
G. Grille rail members shall be square tube steel as shown on Drawing 619-05, Page 1.
H. There shall be 13 rails to form the grille, with the rails spaced equally to span the 7’9” length of the grille. The rails will be spaced approximately 7-1/2” on-center.
I. Grilles are not required to have hold down clamps at the corners.
J. Welding: Steel grilles shall be all-welded construction. Welds shall be secure and complete along both edges of cross pieces and at joints in the frame, and shall conform to subsection 555.18.
K. Paint: Cattleguard grille shall be painted after fabrication. Painting shall conform to Section
563. Column 5 of Table 563-1 shall apply or powder coated according to AAMA 2604-05 specifications. The topcoat color for cattleguard grille shall be Federal Standard Color 24325.
N. The CO or COR shall be notified 72 hours prior to delivery.
O. Delivery shall be made Monday -Thursday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
90 days after award. A forklift/loader will be provided to unload supplies.
P. Delivery of units shall be to the Hill City Shop located at 24030 Hwy 385 Hill City, SD 57745
