About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for a cattleguard grille solicitation that addresses clarifications on technical specifications, drawings, and documentation requirements.
The document clarifies several key issues regarding the solicitation: Drawing 619-05, Page 2 of 2 containing base unit and end-locking-channel details has been provided; welding requirements shall conform to FP-14 subsection 555.17; FP-14 (not FP-24) governs fabrication specifications. For cattleguard grilles custom fabricated to Drawing 619-05 and Attachment 1 specifications, no product brochure is required, though all welders must be qualified by test per D1.5 Clause 7 without requiring formal certification. Cattleguard products that deviate from the standard drawing require shop plans and documentation verifying AASHTO HL-93 load rating. The 8'-5" C10x15.3 locking channel is to be supplied under a separate contract for concrete bases, not as part of this solicitation. A formatting error in Attachment 1 resulted in the intentional omission of specification paragraphs L and M between section K and section N.

Questions and Answers for Cattleguard Grille solicitation
1. Attachment 2, Standard Cattleguard Grille Drawing 619-05, is labeled “Page 01 of 02.”
We could only locate Page 1 in the solicitation attachments. Is there a Page 2 that should have been included? If so, could you please provide it? Attached are both page 1 & 2
2. The drawing states that welding shall conform to FP-14 subsection 555.17, while Attachment 1 states welding shall conform to subsection 555.18. Could you please confirm which welding requirement applies? FP-14 555.17
3. Attachment 1 references FP-24, while Drawing 619-05 references FP-14. Could you please confirm which version/specification governs fabrication of these cattleguard grilles?
FP-14
4. Does the Government require any shop/fabrication drawings, welder certifications, material certifications, inspection documentation, or documentation verifying the AASHTO HL-93 load rating, either before fabrication or at delivery? All welders must be qualified by test per D1.5 Clause 7, certification is not required. Cattleguard products not matching the standard drawing 619-05 require shop plans and documentation verifying the AASHTO HL- 93 load rating.
5. The solicitation requires a product brochure with the quotation. If the cattleguard grilles are custom fabricated specifically to Drawing 619-05 and Attachment 1 rather than being an off-the-shelf product, would a fabrication-shop product data sheet or shop drawing demonstrating compliance with the specifications satisfy the product brochure requirement? Yes, grilles that are custom fabricated specifically to drawing 619-05 and Attachment 1 do not require a product brochure. Cattleguard products not matching the standard drawing 619-05 require shop plans and documentation verifying the AASHTO HL- 93 load rating.
1. Missing drawing sheet. Attachment 2, Drawing 619-05, is labeled "Page 01 of 02."
Please provide page 2 of 2, understood to contain the base unit and end-locking-channel details. Attached
2. Missing specification paragraphs. Attachment 1 is lettered A through K, then resumes at N. Paragraphs L and M appear to have been omitted. Please provide them or confirm the omission is intentional. This is a formatting error. Items L and M were intentionally omitted.
3. C10x15.3 end locking channel. Please confirm the fabrication requirements for the 8'- 5" C10x15.3 channel supplied with each grille: whether any holes, slots, copes, or bevels are required; whether it is shipped loose or attached to the grille; and whether it receives the same finish as the grille. The 8’ 5” C10x15.3 Locking Channel is to be supplied under a separate contract supplying concrete bases.
