About this file

This document is a Preliminary Table of Requirements for the United States Coast Guard's (USCG) Border Security Riverine (BSR) vessel. The BSR is a shore-based boat designed for law enforcement operations, specifically Drug Interdiction (DI) and Migrant Interdiction (MI) on the Rio Grande. Key technical specifications include a 18-22 ft length, 8-ft 6 in beam when trailered, and the ability to operate in extremely shallow water (as little as 2 inches) with diverse riverine conditions.

The vessel requires a top speed of 35+ knots (28 knots cruising), capability to maintain 15+ knots against Rio Grande current, and operate in temperatures ranging from 32°F to 110°F. Propulsion will be a single gasoline outboard with a fleet mix of 20 jet propulsion and 5 propeller-driven boats. The hull will be monohull high-density polyethylene with a center console, hydraulic steering, two batteries, and specific features like a cable bar for crew protection, mesh rigging for gear, and blue law enforcement lighting. The boat must be trailer-deployable on highways up to 65 mph and have positive flotation and stability for personnel recovery.

United States Coast Guard Border Security Riverine (BSR)

Preliminary Table of Requirements

The U. S. Coast Guard (USCG) is conducting additional market research in preparation for a future acquisition of the Border Security Riverine (BSR). The USCG is seeking information from industry about the current state of the market and possible options that may address the USCG requirements. The BSR is a shore-based boat with a primary mission responding to Law Enforcement operations to include Drug Interdiction (DI), and Migrant Interdiction (MI) On the Rio Grande.
