About this file
This is a Bid Documents specification file for Phase I EROS Fluid Coolers Design Services at the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, dated June 12, 2020. The document establishes procurement and contracting requirements, general construction requirements, and technical specifications for the removal and replacement of chilled water piping, condenser water piping, cooling towers, and addition of a new 300-ton chiller for redundancy at the 1996 building addition.
The work scope includes selective demolition and modification of concrete slabs, flooring, and ceilings; construction of 2-hour rated wall shafts as piping chases; installation of 2x2 access panels; replacement of existing cooling towers; replacement of condenser water and chilled water piping; and addition of a new 300-ton chiller. The specification establishes detailed requirements across multiple disciplines including structural steel framing, mechanical piping and HVAC systems, electrical work, gypsum board assemblies, and interior painting. Key administrative requirements include submission of a comprehensive Gantt-chart construction schedule within 30 days of Notice to Proceed, preparation of daily construction reports, coordination with the Owner who will occupy the building during construction, compliance with work hour restrictions (6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday), submittal procedures requiring electronic PDF submissions to a project website, and quality assurance protocols. The document specifies that existing drawing and survey information are available for reference, notes that no asbestos, lead, or PCB surveys were performed, and establishes requirements for product selection, substitution procedures, cutting and patching, waste management, and final closeout documentation. Construction coordination is required with the Owner's ongoing operations, with 72-hour advance notice required for activities affecting operations and utility interruptions.
