1. Carefully remove or thin heavy encrustations of carbonate deposits using a hammer and a sharp chisel. Be sure not to mar or scratch the granite surface. The intent is to cleave the deposit from the granite. Thinner deposits can be left as.

2. Apply the undiluted cleaner to the deposit. Allow the cleaner to dwell for at least 10 minutes. Periodically scrub and apply additional cleaner during the dwell period to facilitate removal. No metal brushes or scrapers are to be used. If necessary, the cleaner can dwell longer, based upon the results of mockups.

3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Pressure shall not exceed 1000psi. Rinse until the pH of the cleaned surface reads neutral (pH of 7) or equal to that of the rinse water.

4. Repeat the process once, if deposits remain. Notify Contracting Officer or owner if additional deposit remains after two applications.

5. Aim to remove 85% of carbonate deposits.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 LANDSCAPE PLAN REVIEW AND COORDINATION - Contractor will be held responsible for coordination between landscape and irrigation system installation.

Landscape material locations shown on the Landscape Plan shall take precedence over the irrigation system equipment locations. If irrigation equipment is installed in conflict with the landscape material locations shown on the Landscape Plan, the Contractor will be required to relocate the irrigation equipment, as necessary, at Contractor’s expense.

3.02 INSPECTION - Examine areas and conditions under which Work of this Section is to be performed. Do not proceed with Work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

A. Grading operations, with the exception of final grading, shall be completed and approved by Owner before staking or installation of any irrigation system begins.

3.03 PREPARATION:

A. Staking shall Occur as Follows:

1. Mark, with powdered lime, routing of pressure supply line and flag heads for first few zones. Contact Owners Representative 48 hours in advance and request review of staking. Owner’s Representative will advise installer as to the amount of staking to be prepared. Owner’s Representative will review staking and direct changes if required. Review does not relieve installer from coverage problems due to improper placement of heads after staking.

2. If Project has significant topography, freeform planting beds, or other amenities, which could require alteration of irrigation equipment layout as deemed necessary by Owners Representative, do not install irrigation equipment in these areas until Owners Representative has reviewed equipment staking.

B. Install sleeving under asphalt paving and concrete walks, prior to concrete placement and paving operations, to accommodate piping and wiring. Compact backfill around sleeves to 95% Modified Proctor Density within 2% of optimum moisture content in accordance with STM D1557.
