About this file
This document is a comprehensive design set for a sustainable visitor access ramp project at the Hite Small Boat Launch facility within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The project involves constructing a boat launch ramp providing access to the Colorado River at Hite, Arizona.
The project includes three primary infrastructure components: an access road approximately 5,296 feet long (1.0 mile) from Station 13+54.34 to 66+50.00, a concrete ramp measuring 1,032.96 feet (Station 66+50.00 to 76+82.96), and a natural ground ramp of 283.25 feet (Station 76+82.96 to 79+66.21). The concrete ramp features a 16% slope with a typical section width of 37 feet, including a 1.5-foot-0-inch edge beam on each side. The design water level is established at 3,535 feet with a high water level at 3,700 feet. The ramp layout includes expansion joints at 50-foot intervals, construction joints every 12 feet, and contraction joints as required. Specifications call for #6 epoxy-coated rebar at 10-inch on-center spacing, #4 stirrups, grade beam details with 3-inch clearance below concrete, and 6-inch base course aggregate. Supporting infrastructure includes riprap ditch lining, edge-of-roadway and edge-of-parking designation, drainage features via grade ditches, parking areas (upper and lower), and survey control points. The design incorporates typical ramp details with joint sealers, dowels, and grooves to manage water infiltration and structural integrity in the fluctuating river environment. Sheet drawings index encompasses geometric layouts, profiles, plans, and detailed cross-sections across 23 design sheets dated July 25, 2025.
