Burn Plan Writing Workshop (Interagency and National Engagement) Date
Background Cadre involved in the Agency Administrator Prescribed Fire Workshop (AAWS) are reviewing 30-60+ burn plans from all agencies across the country every year. 10 of the current cadre have been a part of this effort. We have reviewed more than 500 burn plans. A common conclusion among the group is that we need focus our attention on the burn bosses. Hence, we started the BBWSs in 2019.
Intent Through a two-day interactive virtual workshop, we are going to provide an opportunity for burn bosses to improve their understanding of what makes for a good burn plan. A good plan has done much more than address each element. A good plan is
1. written with the reader in mind,
2. clear and concise,
3. provide implementers flexibility needed for success, and
4. consistent with policy.
Too often preparers are focused on covering policy requirements and developing a defensible plan and bullets 1-3 are lost. A good plan meets all four bullets.
And by bringing this group of XX experienced cadre together we are going to help preparers write better plans. We are going to cover complexity analysis, each element of the burn plan, reviews, amendments, and more. Your insights, derived from exposure to numerous burn plans and burn experiences across the country, is going to help our prepares gain a deeper understanding of what matters.
