About this file

This is a set of construction drawings and plans for the West Beach Succession Trail Boardwalk/Staircase Replacement project at Indiana Dunes National Park in Porter County, Indiana. The project involves complete removal and replacement of existing trail structures along approximately 1,497 linear feet (base bid STA 0+00 to STA 14+97.05), with a bid option for partial replacement of 554 linear feet (STA 0+00 to STA 5+54). The base bid includes installation of helical piles with 20-foot minimum ground embedment (7-foot minimum in specific sections STA 6+00 to 7+00) and 12-inch by 12-inch steel footing plates without ground penetration in wetland areas (STA 11+75 to project end). New construction features prefabricated galvanized steel Wickcraft boardwalk frames (6 feet wide, length to be determined by manufacturer) with composite wood Trex decking, pressure-treated lumber railings and grab rails with 1.9-inch aluminum handrails, and a 10-foot by 15-foot proposed overlook platform. The bid option requires 12-inch by 12-inch steel footing plates without ground penetration. Design criteria comply with the 2024 International Building Code, ASCE 7-22 standards, with wind speed of 107 mph, ground snow load of 52 PSF, and live loads minimum of 100 PSF. Construction specifications require field verification of all existing conditions, proper erosion control, maintenance of continuous site access, vehicle and equipment restrictions to prevent landscape damage and wildfire hazards, shop drawing submittals, and adherence to Construction Wage Rate Requirements for Porter County, Indiana.
