About this file

Summary

Attachment D is a project specifications document for the West Virginia University Personal Rapid Transit (WVU-PRT) system in Morgantown, West Virginia, outlining detailed requirements for bridge bearing replacement and pier repair work on WVDOT Bridge No. 31-19-13.06. The specifications encompass three primary work scopes: bridge bearing assemblies replacement, cleaning and washing of guideway structures, and application of concrete protective coatings. The bridge bearing assembly work includes jacking of the guideway superstructure to relieve stress, removal of existing bearing components, and installation of new elastomeric bearing assemblies with masonry plates, sole plates, and anchor bolts. The cleaning and washing scope requires pre-wash dry cleaning followed by low-pressure water washing (3,000 to 4,500 psi) of all pier surfaces. The concrete protective coatings scope specifies the application of Euclid Chemical Tammscoat (gray) or approved equivalent on concrete surfaces. Contractors must submit product data, shop drawings including proposed jacking plans and procedures, and working drawings prepared and sealed by a West Virginia licensed Professional Engineer at least ten days prior to work commencement. A construction sequence schedule must be developed between the contractor and WVU-PRT with at least one day notification for unscheduled work.

The specifications emphasize strict compliance with West Virginia Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges and AASHTO standards. All materials, including elastomeric bearing pads, masonry plates, and sole plates, must conform to specified ASTM standards with appropriate surface preparation, coating treatments, and galvanization requirements. The contractor bears sole responsibility for designing and fabricating lifting equipment and procedures, subject to WVU-PRT review, and must protect high-voltage cables, communications infrastructure, public safety, and adjacent structures throughout execution. Surface preparation requirements for epoxy grit coating are detailed extensively, including blast cleaning standards and application procedures. No separate payment is specified for epoxy grit installation as it is considered incidental to bearing installation work.
