About this file

This is an Environmental Testing Protocol attachment that establishes the bacteria testing procedures for potable water at the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center. The protocol specifies that the Engineering Service controls sampling site determination, while the State of Utah determines water testing frequency for bacteria. Routine monthly bacteria testing will be conducted within the distribution systems of Buildings 1, 3, and 14, with three sampling sites total per month—one site per building. Samples must not be collected from restrooms or areas susceptible to outside contamination such as bathrooms, janitor closets, or dirty rooms, and must be representative of the entire distribution system.

Water samples will be collected by contractor staff using EPA's Quick Guide to Drinking Water Sample Collection and transported to a certified testing laboratory within 24 hours of collection. The contractor is responsible for delivering samples in bottles it provides and obtaining results from the certified testing contractor. Repeat sampling procedures must follow the Utah Division of Drinking Water's attachment "DDW-2022-035825 - BacT Repeat." The contractor must provide all positive laboratory results to the Contracting Officer's Representative as soon as possible to minimize patient exposure risk. This protocol supports the broader solicitation B533--Potable Water Testing, which requires the contractor to furnish all labor, supervision, materials, and equipment for microbial, chemical, and water quality testing of potable water at the facility.
