About this file
This is a Technical Specification document for the design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and delivery of utility trays in three versions for Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The specification establishes requirements for systems that provide electrical service, cooling water, and compressed gases to production equipment.
The specification details three utility tray configurations: a 90-Degree Version (37" wide × 203" along first leg × 180" along second leg), an Extended Version configured as a modified "U" shape (37" wide × 231" along first leg × 318" along width), and a Shortened Version configured as a modified "V" with 60-degree angles (37" wide × 175" along first leg × 118" along second leg). All three versions are approximately 9.5 inches tall. The 90D and Shortened versions consist of three sub-assemblies each (Source End, transition assembly, and Collection End), while the Extended version comprises six sub-assemblies. Electrical services include multiple circuits ranging from 120/208V at 100-125 amps to 480V at 40 amps, with distribution through Panel D and various receptacles. Fluid systems deliver cooling water at 60-80 PSIG (20-25 GPM nominal), primary and auxiliary compressed air at 90-100 PSIG, nitrogen and argon gases, and vacuum pump exhaust. Construction must comply with ASME B31.3 piping code, AWS welding standards, UL-508A electrical panel standards, and OSHA/NEC regulations. Materials include AISI 304 stainless steel framing, copper Type L tubing for water, and 316 stainless steel tubing for gases. Acceptance testing requires electrical continuity and voltage verification, static pressure testing of fluid systems up to 150 PSIG for water and 110 PSIG for gases, and comprehensive cleaning and flushing of cooling water lines. The seller must provide fabrication drawings, as-built drawings, material certificates, welding documentation, inspection and test procedures, a cleaning and flushing plan, and test reports prior to shipment. All fabricated elements carry a 24-month warranty against material and manufacturing defects, and the completed trays must be crated and shipped in an enclosed trailer to ORNL.
