About this file

This document is a detailed technical specification for asbestos floor tile and mastic abatement at the VA Central Iowa Healthcare System in Des Moines, Iowa. The project involves removing approximately 1,820 square feet of flooring and mastic, 3,994 square feet of mastic, and 6 linear feet of black tar above an exterior door. The abatement work will be conducted under strict regulatory requirements, including compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state regulations for asbestos removal.

The specification outlines comprehensive requirements for the asbestos abatement contractor, including detailed protocols for site preparation, worker protection, respiratory safety, containment procedures, and waste disposal. Key requirements include establishing a regulated work area, using appropriate personal protective equipment, implementing negative air pressure systems, conducting thorough cleaning and decontamination, and performing visual and air clearance testing. The contractor must submit detailed documentation, including an Asbestos Hazard Abatement Plan, worker qualifications, medical surveillance records, and complete the project with final certification of proper asbestos removal.
