About this file

This is an Operations Security (OPSEC) training memorandum issued by the New Jersey Air National Guard's 177th Fighter Wing to contract employees dated 13 August 2026. The document provides mandatory security guidance referencing AFI 10-701_AFGM2018-01 and is classified as For Official Use Only (FOUO) under the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act.

The memorandum defines OPSEC as a process to reduce exposure of Air Force missions by eliminating or reducing successful enemy collection and exploitation of critical information. Key definitions include identifying adversaries as anyone intending to harm military members or damage military operations, and defining critical information as specific facts about friendly intentions, capabilities, or activities needed by adversaries to plan effective counter-actions. The document identifies Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) as the primary collection method, drawn from publicly available sources including the Internet, traditional mass media, specialized publications, photographs, and geospatial information such as maps and commercial imagery. Required OPSEC protection measures include shredding material when no longer needed, identifying individuals asking excessive questions about military operations or eavesdropping on staff conversations, and prohibiting posting of military-related information on social media or websites. Contract employees should direct questions to Major Dawn A. Walker, 177FW OPSEC Program Manager, at 609-761-6836 or dawn.walker.1@us.af.mil.
