About this file

This document is an Attachment detailing Chemical Parameters, Matrix, and Detection Limits for Radiological Sample Analysis Services. The comprehensive matrix specifies precise analytical requirements for multiple radioactive isotopes across diverse sample types including urine, fecal matter, water, soil, sediment, air filters, wipes, animal tissue, and vegetation. Specific detection methodologies are outlined for isotopes such as Americium, Plutonium, Uranium, Thorium, Strontium-90, and various metals, with each entry prescribing detection limits measured in pCi/L, pCi/g, ug/L, or mg/L and minimum sample sizes ranging from 1 liter to 50 grams.

The attachment includes critical technical notes mandating compliance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) N13.30 reporting requirements, specifying that water analysis methods must align with Title 40 CFR Part 141, and emphasizing that soil uranium analyses require complete dissolution methods involving hydrofluoric acid digestion. Additional provisions allow for case-by-case additions of isotope technologies with prior coordination between the contract laboratory and the Defense Center for Public Health-Aberdeen (DCPH-A) Contracting Officer's Representative, underscoring the technical specificity and flexibility of the radiological sample analysis services requirement.

Notes:

1. All Fecal and urine samples shall be reported in compliance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) N13.30, Section 4.2 reporting requirements.

1. For all water analyses: methods used for analysis must be from approved methods listed in Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 141.25 and 141.26 for Drinking Water Compliance. Methods must be specified and provided for review. Method substitutions must be approved prior to analysis.

1. All soil analyses for Uranium and Uranium ratios shall be prepared using a complete dissolution method to include hydrofluoric acid digestion. Preparation methods using a leach method will not be acceptable for these parameters and will be reanalyzed at contractor expense. Specify if a separate additional cost is required.

1. Detection Limits are highly matrix dependent; however, samples will be counted for the maximum count time to reasonably achieve specified detection level requirements.

1. Other isotopes of the same technologies may be added on a case-by-case basis with prior coordination between the contract lab and DCPH-A Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).
